Job description
Job Purpose
The Receiver / Dispatcher / Stock Controller is responsible for overseeing the receiving, storage, stock control, and dispatching of fresh produce within the warehouse. The role ensures accurate stock management, product quality control, timely dispatch of orders, and adherence to food safety and warehouse procedures to support efficient distribution operations.
Key Responsibilities
Receiving of Stock
- Receive incoming fruit and vegetable deliveries from suppliers.
- Verify quantities, product quality, and delivery documentation against purchase orders and invoices.
- Inspect produce for damages, spoilage, expiry dates, and quality standards.
- Record all received stock accurately into the stock control system.
- Report shortages, damages, or discrepancies immediately to management.
- Ensure proper rotation of stock using FIFO (First In First Out) principles.
Dispatching Operations
- Prepare and coordinate customer orders for dispatch.
- Ensure all dispatch orders are accurate and completed on time.
- Verify dispatched quantities against invoices and delivery notes.
- Coordinate loading of vehicles to ensure safe and efficient transportation.
- Ensure cold chain requirements are maintained during dispatch.
- Monitor dispatch schedules and communicate delays or issues to management and drivers.
Stock Control
- Maintain accurate stock levels and warehouse inventory records.
- Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly stock counts.
- Investigate stock variances and report findings.
- Monitor slow-moving, damaged, and expired stock.
- Ensure all stock is stored correctly according to product requirements.
- Assist with stock forecasting and replenishment requirements.
Warehouse Operations
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of warehouse areas.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards.
- Monitor temperature-controlled storage areas where applicable.
- Assist with general warehouse duties when required.
- Ensure all warehouse equipment is used safely and correctly.
Administration & Reporting
- Complete all receiving and dispatch documentation accurately.
- Maintain filing and record-keeping systems.
- Generate stock and dispatch reports as required.
- Capture data accurately on warehouse management systems or spreadsheets.
- Liaise with suppliers, drivers, management, and store personnel regarding stock movement.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
- Previous experience in warehouse, dispatch, receiving, or stock control environment preferred.
- Experience within the fruit & vegetable or FMCG industry advantageous.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Excel and stock systems.
- Good numerical and administrative skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays when required.
