Regional Technical Sales Representative

An established manufacturer and supplier of specialised commercial and industrial products is looking for an experienced Regional Technical Sales Representative to join its team.

This is a hands-on, field-based sales role for someone who understands that successful technical sales starts with knowing the product, understanding its application and being able to advise the customer confidently.

The successful candidate will be based in the Western Cape and will manage a regional customer base extending through the Eastern Cape and into KwaZulu-Natal. Regular travel and occasional overnight stays will therefore form part of the role.

What we are looking for

We are particularly interested in candidates with 5+ years of external, regional or technical sales experience within environments such as:

• Manufacturing
• Commercial or industrial products
• Hardware and building materials
• Agricultural products
• Plastics, textiles or related manufactured materials
• Wholesale and distribution
• Landscaping, shade products or related applications

Candidates with direct experience in shade netting, shade cloth, netting products or closely related product ranges will be a major advantage.

Equally, someone who has worked inside a manufacturing or production environment and later moved into sales could be a very strong fit.

Key responsibilities

The role will include developing new business while maintaining and growing existing customer relationships across the region. You will work directly with retailers, wholesalers, distributors, contractors and commercial customers, providing product guidance and practical advice based on their requirements.

You will also be responsible for regular customer visits, new account development, quotations and order follow-up, product presentations, identifying opportunities within the market, monitoring competitor activity and consistently working towards agreed sales targets.

What will make you successful

You should be commercially minded, self-motivated and comfortable managing a large territory independently.

Strong relationship-building and negotiation skills are important, but technical curiosity and the willingness to properly understand the product range are equally important. We are looking for someone who can sell through knowledge and credibility rather than simply price.

Applicants should have:

• Minimum 5 years' relevant sales experience
• Proven new business and account management ability
• Strong understanding of physical or technical products
• Confidence dealing with commercial and industrial customers
• Afrikaans and English communication skills would be advantageous
• Valid driver's licence
• Own reliable transport
• Willingness to travel extensively
