JOB DESCRIPTION: REGISTERED INSTALLATION ELECTRICIAN
Position Title: Registered Installation Electrician
Department: Technical / Electrical
Reports To: Project Manager / Site Manager
Employment Type: Permanent / Project-Based, as applicable
Location: Various Project Sites
1. JOB PURPOSE
To perform, supervise and maintain electrical installation, testing, fault-finding and repair activities in accordance with applicable legislation, electrical standards, project specifications and company requirements. The Registered Installation Electrician is responsible for ensuring that electrical installations are completed safely, correctly and in compliance with the requirements of the Department of Employment and Labour and relevant regulatory authorities.
2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install, maintain, repair and commission electrical systems and equipment.
- Conduct electrical installations in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and applicable standards.
- Perform testing and verification of electrical installations.
- Conduct fault-finding and diagnose electrical problems.
- Inspect electrical installations and identify defects, hazards and non-compliance.
- Ensure electrical work is carried out in accordance with applicable legislation and safety requirements.
- Complete and maintain relevant electrical installation documentation and records.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and technical documentation.
- Coordinate with other artisans, subcontractors and construction teams where required.
- Ensure electrical materials and equipment are correctly installed and utilised.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.
- Ensure tools, equipment and work areas are maintained in a safe and serviceable condition.
- Report electrical faults, safety risks, defective equipment and non-compliance to the relevant supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements at all times.
- Assist with inspections, commissioning and handover of completed electrical installations.
- Perform any other reasonable duties within the scope of the position.
3. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualification:
- NTC qualification or Matric.
- Registered as an Installation Electrician with the Department of Employment and Labour.
- Minimum of 9 years' relevant post-certification experience.
4. TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- Electrical installation and maintenance.
- Electrical fault-finding and troubleshooting.
- Electrical testing and commissioning.
- Interpretation of electrical drawings and schematics.
- Knowledge of electrical regulations and standards.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
- Ability to use electrical testing equipment and relevant tools.
