Role Description This full-time, on-site Registered Nurse (ICU trained) role is based in Cape Town and involves delivering high-quality, evidence-based care to critically ill patients in an intensive care setting. The nurse will perform comprehensive patient assessments, monitor vital signs and life-support equipment, administer medications and treatments, and respond promptly to changes in patient condition. Daily responsibilities include collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, implementing care plans, maintaining detailed clinical documentation, and supporting families with clear, compassionate communication. The role also requires adherence to infection prevention protocols, participation in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing professional development to maintain ICU competencies.

Qualifications

• Valid registration as a Professional Nurse with the relevant national nursing council and formal ICU training or certification.
• Proven clinical experience in an Intensive Care Unit or high-acuity environment, with strong skills in patient assessment, monitoring, and critical intervention.
• Proficiency in the use of ICU equipment and technology, including ventilators, infusion devices, and patient monitoring systems.
• Sound knowledge of critical care protocols, pharmacology, and evidence-based nursing practices.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
• Demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure, prioritize tasks, and make timely, well-informed clinical decisions.
• Commitment to patient safety, ethical practice, and confidentiality, with meticulous attention to documentation and regulatory compliance.
• Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, as required in a 24/7 ICU setting.
• Continuous learning mindset, with engagement in ongoing professional development, in-service training, and skills updates.
• Basic computer literacy for electronic health records and clinical information systems; experience in a hospital environment in Cape Town or broader South Africa is advantageous.
