Registered Nurse (RN) – General Ward (1 Position)

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing holistic nursing care to medical and surgical patients while promoting patient wellbeing, safety, and recovery through evidence-based nursing practice.

1. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

• The primary responsibility of the General Ward RN is to deliver safe, compassionate, and individualised nursing care to patients in the medical and surgical wards. This includes ongoing assessment, medication administration, wound care, and monitoring of patient progress.
• The role also focuses on educating patients and families while working collaboratively with the healthcare team to promote recovery and positive outcomes.

2. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS (KPA)

• Patient assessment and care implementation.
• Medication administration and monitoring.
• Patient and family education.
• Multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Compliance with documentation standards.

3. KEY WORK OUTPUT AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Perform daily nursing procedures and wound care.
• Monitor patient progress and report changes.
• Support discharge planning.
• Educate patients and families.
• Promote infection prevention practices.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team.
• Ensure patient advocacy and quality care.

4. REQUIREMENTS

• Current SANC registration as a Professional Nurse with valid APC.
• Minimum 1–2 years’ experience in a General / Medical-Surgical Ward.
• Sound knowledge of nursing processes and patient care standards.
• Willingness to work day and night shifts.
• Good organisational and interpersonal skills.

5. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION

• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in General Nursing.
• Any additional short courses in Medical-Surgical Nursing (advantageous).
• Computer literacy.
