Role Description The Registered Nurse will provide on-site clinical and wellness services at YMCA Athlone in the City of Cape Town as part of a contract role. Day-to-day responsibilities include assessing the health status of program participants, delivering basic primary care, monitoring chronic conditions, and administering medications in line with clinical guidelines. The nurse will maintain accurate health records, ensure adherence to infection prevention and control standards, and coordinate referrals to external healthcare providers when necessary. The role also involves health education, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, supporting mental health and psychosocial wellbeing, and collaborating with staff to create a safe, supportive environment for all community members.

Qualifications

• Valid registration as a Registered Nurse with the appropriate national nursing council and current practicing license.
• Section 22a registered
• Demonstrated clinical skills in patient assessment, basic primary care, chronic disease management, and medication administration.
• Knowledge of community health, health promotion, and wellness education in diverse, multicultural settings.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with young people and community members.
• Ability to maintain accurate documentation, follow clinical protocols, and uphold infection prevention and control standards.
• Commitment to non-discriminatory, person-centered care and safeguarding vulnerable individuals, including children and youth.
• Capacity to work independently in an on-site community environment, with sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
• Previous experience in community health, school or youth programs, or NGO settings is advantageous.
• Basic computer literacy and comfort using electronic records or reporting tools.
