We are seeking a qualified, goal-driven and self-motivated Acute Dialysis Practitioner to join our multidisciplinary team.
Purpose of the Role
The Acute Dialysis Practitioner delivers safe, high-quality, evidence-based and person-centred acute dialysis care to patients within hospitals in accordance with professional, ethical and regulatory standards. The practitioner provides renal replacement therapy in critical care units, high care units, and general wards, working collaboratively with nephrologists, physicians, nursing teams, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
The role requires, adaptability and effective care coordination across multiple hospital environments. The Acute Dialysis Practitioner ensures the safe operation of dialysis equipment, maintains clinical governance and infection prevention standards, and contributes to quality improvement, patient safety and positive clinical outcomes throughout the patient's acute episode of care. Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree leading to registration as a Registered Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) or Clinical Technologist (Independent Practice) registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
- Post Basic Diploma in Nephrology Nursing would be advantageous.
Experience
- Acute dialysis experience is preferred
- ICU or Critical Care experience would be advantageous
- Experience performing CRRT and SLED would be advantageous
- Experience working within multidisciplinary hospital teams.
- Experience in emergency and after-hours clinical environments.
- Experience independently managing dialysis equipment outside a dialysis unit is preferred.
Knowledge
Working knowledge of relevant healthcare legislation and professional standards, including:
- National Health Act
- POPIA
- Health and Safety legislation
- SANC/HPCSA ethical rules and scope of practice

Working Conditions
- The role is mobile and requires frequent travel between hospitals within an allocated geographical region.
- Work is performed in a variety of hospital settings including Intensive Care Units, High Care Units, and general wards.
- The position requires flexibility to respond to urgent and unplanned patient treatment requirements.
- Participation in after-hours, weekend, public holiday and on-call rosters will be required in accordance with operational requirements.
- Regular handling and setup of dialysis equipment and consumables are essential requirements of the role.
The practitioner works in high-acuity clinical environments requiring sound clinical judgement, adaptability and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
