Research Pharmacist

Overall Purpose of the Position:

To ensure the correct, safe and appropriate use of investigational products and ensure investigational product is procured, stored and dispensed in adherence to the approved current protocol and legal and ethical guidelines.

Key Performance Areas (KPA’s) & Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

· Reviewing and executing doctor’s prescriptions, checking their appropriateness and legality

· Interpreting prescriptions and dispensing Investigational product according to protocol

· Advising on importance of compliance and correct use of study medication

· Conducting stock control to ensure correct available stock levels and monitor expiry dates of investigational and other medicinal products

· Organising the pharmacy in an efficient manner to make the identification of products easier and faster

· Maintaining full control over receipt, storage and labelling of investigational products and monitoring their condition to prevent expiring or deterioration

· Preparing investigational product when appropriate, by using aseptic technique, correct dosages and material for each individual patient in the clinical trial environment

· Maintaining study documentation

· Communicating and liaising with trial sites, investigators and study co-ordinators efficiently regarding pharmacy related matters

· Keeping abreast of advancements in medicine and clinical research by means of continuous professional development and collaborating with other healthcare professionals

· Complying with rules relating to Good Pharmacy Practice

· Complying with all applicable legislation, regulations and procedures

· Attending to emergency callouts for temperature excursions (Preference will be given to candidates residing in close proximity to Bellville and Brooklyn)

Ideal Requirements

· B.Pharm qualification or degree

· Valid registration with the SAPC as a Pharmacist

· A minimum of 2 years’ experience preferably within research and/or medical industry

· Valid GCP Certificate (Essential)

· Valid Indemnity Insurance Certificate

· Valid driver’s licence

· Able to assist with other tasks and rotate between the TASK pharmacy sites

· Willingness to work flexible hours as required

· Experience in Oncology within Clinical Trials an advantage
