Retail Manager

We are looking for a reliable, responsible and hands-on Site Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of a busy fuel and retail site.

The successful candidate must be willing to take ownership of the site, maintain high operational standards, manage staff effectively, and ensure that strict internal controls and procedures are followed at all times.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily operations of the site and ensure all operational procedures and protocols are followed.
• Be available and willing to work odd hours, weekends and when operationally required.
• Manage, supervise and monitor staff performance.
• Ensure employees complete their assigned duties and daily chores.
• Ensure all staff are well presented and maintain professional standards.
• Handle customer complaints, disputes and operational problems professionally.
• Receive and oversee supplier deliveries and ensure stock received is correct.
• Conduct weekly stocktakes and investigate discrepancies.
• Monitor stock levels and ensure sufficient stock and product volumes are maintained.
• Place orders with suppliers and follow up on outstanding deliveries.
• Investigate cash, stock and transactional discrepancies.
• Monitor cashier cash-ups and ensure correct procedures are followed.
• Review refunds, voids and unusual transactions to identify and prevent potential abuse or foul play.
• Review CCTV footage when incidents, discrepancies or suspicious activities arise.
• Assist in preventing internal theft, fraud, shrinkage and stock losses.
• Strictly enforce internal procedures and control measures designed to minimise theft and shrinkage.
• Identify operational problems and implement corrective action where appropriate.
• Immediately report shortages, low stock levels, discrepancies, suspicious activity and other significant problems to the Dealer/Owner.
• Ensure the site operates efficiently and maintains high standards at all times.

Minimum Requirements

• Matric / Grade 12.
• Previous management or supervisory experience, preferably within the fuel, retail or convenience-store industry.
• Must have own reliable transport.
• Good credit history.
• Strong ethics, integrity and morals.
• Reliable, responsible and trustworthy.
• Strong staff-management and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work under pressure and deal with difficult situations professionally.
• Good attention to detail, particularly regarding cash, stock and internal controls.
• Willing to learn, improve and continuously develop.
• Willing to take responsibility and accountability for site operations.
• Must be committed to keeping the site operating at its optimum performance.
• Must be willing and able to work flexible and irregular hours, including weekends, when required.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is hands-on, observant, proactive and accountable. The successful candidate should not simply manage from an office but should understand what is happening throughout the site, identify problems early and take appropriate action.
