We are looking for an energetic, reliable and customer-focused Retail Sales Representative to join our Pretoria team. The successful candidate will assist customers, drive sales and take responsibility for the smooth day-to-day operation of the store.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in keeping a store organised and can confidently handle sales, stock and administrative duties.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Store Opening and Closing

  • Open and close the store according to company procedures.
  • Ensure the store is clean, organised and ready for customers before opening.
  • Switch on and prepare point-of-sale systems, card machines, lighting and other equipment.
  • Conduct opening and closing security checks.
  • Ensure doors, windows, gates and security systems are properly secured.
  • Activate and deactivate the alarm system when required.
  • Complete daily opening and closing checklists.
  • Ensure all cash, stock and equipment are safely secured at the end of the day.
  • Report security concerns, suspicious activity or maintenance problems immediately.

Customer Service and Sales

  • Welcome and assist walk-in customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Identify customers’ needs and recommend suitable products.
  • Provide accurate information about products, pricing, availability and promotions.
  • Demonstrate products and explain their features and benefits.
  • Prepare quotations and assist customers with purchasing decisions.
  • Process customer orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Follow up on quotations, enquiries, orders and outstanding customer requests.
  • Handle telephone, email, WhatsApp and social media enquiries where required.
  • Build positive relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Promote additional products through upselling and cross-selling.
  • Work towards individual and store sales targets.
  • Inform customers about promotions, new products and special offers.
  • Resolve customer complaints calmly and professionally.
  • Process returns, refunds and exchanges according to company policy.
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service at all times.

Cashier and Point-of-Sale Duties

  • Process cash, card, EFT and other approved payments.
  • Operate the point-of-sale system accurately.
  • Issue receipts, invoices and credit notes where applicable.
  • Ensure prices and discounts are correctly captured.
  • Maintain accurate records of all transactions.
  • Count and balance the cash register at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Complete daily cash-ups and investigate discrepancies.
  • Prepare cash and supporting documents for banking.
  • Safeguard cash, card machines and store financial information.
  • Follow all company procedures relating to cash handling and fraud prevention.

Stock Ordering and Receiving

  • Monitor stock levels and identify items that need to be reordered.
  • Prepare and submit stock orders to approved suppliers.
  • Follow up with suppliers regarding outstanding orders and delivery dates.
  • Receive stock deliveries and check goods against purchase orders and supplier invoices.
  • Confirm that quantities, product descriptions and prices are correct.
  • Inspect delivered stock for damage, defects or missing items.
  • Report delivery discrepancies and damaged stock immediately.
  • Capture received stock accurately on the stock or point-of-sale system.
  • Label, price and display new stock.
  • Ensure stock is stored safely and neatly.
  • Maintain organised stockroom and storage areas.
  • Keep supplier documentation, delivery notes and invoices properly filed.

Stock Control and Stocktaking

  • Conduct daily, weekly, monthly and annual stock counts.
  • Perform regular cycle counts on high-value and fast-moving products.
  • Compare physical stock with system records.
  • Investigate stock shortages, overages and other discrepancies.
  • Report stock losses, theft, breakages and damaged items.
  • Maintain accurate stock movement records.
  • Monitor slow-moving, obsolete and expired stock.
  • Assist with stock transfers between branches or departments.
  • Ensure returns to suppliers are properly documented and processed.
  • Help prevent stock shrinkage through careful monitoring and loss-control procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of demo units, reserved stock and customer orders.

Merchandising and Store Presentation

  • Keep shelves, displays, counters and customer areas clean and organised.
  • Replenish stock on the sales floor throughout the day.
  • Ensure products are correctly priced and clearly labelled.
  • Arrange merchandise in an attractive and customer-friendly manner.
  • Set up promotional displays and in-store marketing material.
  • Remove damaged, expired or unsuitable products from display.
  • Ensure displays comply with company branding and merchandising standards.
  • Keep the entrance, sales floor, counter and stockroom presentable.
  • Assist with general cleaning and housekeeping duties.
  • Report damaged fixtures, equipment or signage.

Administration and Reporting

  • Complete daily sales, stock and cash reports.
  • Maintain accurate customer, order and quotation records.
  • Capture customer information correctly and protect confidential data.
  • File invoices, receipts, delivery notes and stock documents.
  • Keep records of returns, exchanges, damaged goods and supplier claims.
  • Assist with weekly and monthly sales reporting.
  • Monitor progress against sales targets.
  • Communicate important store information during shift handovers.
  • Report customer feedback, recurring complaints and product requests to management.
  • Assist with promotional activities, campaigns and store events.
  • Perform other reasonable retail and administrative duties when required.

Store Safety and Loss Prevention

  • Follow all health, safety and security procedures.
  • Remain alert to possible theft, fraud and suspicious behaviour.
  • Ensure high-value products are securely displayed and stored.
  • Report accidents, hazards and security incidents.
  • Keep emergency exits and walkways clear.
  • Follow company procedures for handling keys, passwords and alarm codes.
  • Protect company property, customer information and confidential records.
  • Support a safe and professional environment for customers and colleagues.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Grade 12/Matric.
  • Previous retail sales, customer service or store assistant experience is preferred.
  • Experience with point-of-sale systems and cash handling will be advantageous.
  • Basic knowledge of stock ordering, stock receiving and stocktaking.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Confident, friendly and professional when dealing with customers.
  • Basic computer skills, including email and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong numerical and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work accurately with cash, invoices and stock records.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work retail hours, including Saturdays, weekends and public holidays when required.
  • Reliable transport to and from the workplace.
  • Must be punctual, trustworthy and responsible.
