We are looking for a friendly, motivated, and customer-focused Retail Sales Paint Consultant to join our team.
Purpose of the Role
To provide outstanding customer service by assisting customers with paint, colour, décor, and related product selections while achieving sales targets and maintaining high merchandising standards.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Welcome and assist customers in a professional and friendly manner.
- Understand customers' project requirements and recommend suitable products.
- Offer expert advice on paint systems, colour selection, surface preparation, and application methods.
- Resolve customer queries and complaints professionally.
- Build long-term customer relationships that encourage repeat business.
Sales
- Upsell and cross-sell complementary products such as brushes, rollers, fillers, masking tape, adhesives, waterproofing products, cleaning materials, and decorating accessories.
- Promote current promotions, loyalty programmes, and special offers.
- Generate quotations and follow up with customers to secure sales.
Product Knowledge - Develop a thorough understanding of:
- Decorative and industrial paints
- Primers and undercoats
- Waterproofing systems
- Wood treatments and varnishes
- Decorative finishes
- Paint accessories and tools
- Surface preparation products
- Stay informed about new products and industry trends
Colour Matching & Tinting
- Operate paint tinting equipment accurately.
- Mix paint according to customer requirements.
- Ensure colour accuracy and quality control.
- Follow all tinting procedures and safety guidelines.
Merchandising & Store Standards
- Keep shelves fully stocked and well presented.
- Ensure products are correctly priced and labelled.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment.
- Assist with stock replenishment and stock counts.
- Monitor stock shortages and report them promptly.
Administration
- Process sales accurately using the point-of-sale system.
- Handle cash, card, and account transactions according to company procedures.
- Prepare quotations, invoices, and customer orders.
- Complete required paperwork accurately and on time.
Teamwork
- Work collaboratively with colleagues.
- Assist with receiving stock deliveries.
- Support other departments when required.
- Participate in product and sales training.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Minimum of 3 years' retail sales experience.
- Previous experience in a paint, hardware, building supply, or home improvement environment will be advantageous.
- Computer literate.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Afrikaans.
- Valid driver's licence.

- Mondays to Fridays according to store trading hours.
- Saturdays and Public Holidays on a roster basis.
- Overtime when operationally required.
