JOB TITLE: SAFETY OFFICER ASSISTANT

JOB PURPOSE

To support the Health & Safety Officer with the administration, coordination, and maintenance of the Health & Safety Management System. The role will assist with safety documentation, inspections, reporting, training coordination, compliance, and general SHEQ administration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist with implementing and maintaining Health & Safety policies and procedures.
• Participate in safety inspections, audits, and workplace checks.
• Assist with hazard identification and risk assessments.
• Support accident and incident reporting and corrective action tracking.
• Maintain Health & Safety records, registers, reports, and documentation.
• Assist with contractor safety files and contractor inductions.
• Assist with employee and visitor safety inductions.
• Coordinate and maintain training and attendance records.
• Support toolbox talks, safety briefings, and awareness initiatives.
• Assist with environmental and facility safety checks.
• Assist with monthly Health & Safety reporting and SHEQ administration.
• Support Health & Safety Committee meetings and audit preparation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Grade 12 / Matric.
• SAMTRAC, NOSA, or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
• Basic knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act 85 of 1993.
• 2–3 years’ experience in Health & Safety, SHEQ, or compliance support will be advantageous.
• Experience in a manufacturing, warehousing, or industrial environment will be advantageous.

ADVANTAGEOUS

• NEBOSH International General Certificate.
• Diploma/Certificate in Health & Safety Management.
• ISO 45001 and/or ISO 9001 awareness.
• Experience with safety documentation, risk assessments, inspections, and contractor safety files.
