Job description
Job Summary
The Safety Officer is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe working environment by developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies and procedures. This role ensures compliance with relevant occupational health and safety legislation, identifies hazards, and works proactively to prevent workplace accidents, injuries, and illnesses.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and review health and safety policies, procedures, and programs in line with legal requirements.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits to identify hazards and unsafe practices.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation and company standards.
- Deliver safety induction, training, and toolbox talks to employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, inspections, training, and safety equipment.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness plans, including fire drills, evacuations, and first-aid arrangements.
- Promote a positive safety culture and raise safety awareness across the organization.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Sound knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation and standards.
- Strong observation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.
- Ability to work independently and influence others to follow safe practices.
Key Competencies
Attention to detail, integrity, assertiveness, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Pay: R7 000,00 - R8 000,00 per month
