Call centre and BPO work is a major employer of young South Africans, with inbound, outbound and international campaigns hiring matriculants for full training.
Job description
Role Purpose
The Call Centre Sales Agent sells FSP products directly to customers by phone, building rapport quickly, explaining products clearly and compliantly, and consistently meeting individual sales and premium targets month to month.
This is an individual-contributor, target-driven role: the Agent's own consistency — reaching their monthly sales and premium targets — is what takes them from onboarding through to full productivity, and is the foundation everything else in the role is built on.
Key Responsibilities
Sales calls
- Make outbound calls (or handle inbound leads, campaign-dependent) to present FSP products clearly and accurately.
- Build quick rapport and adapt the explanation to what matters to the specific customer, rather than reciting the same script regardless of response.
- Close sales compliantly — confirming the customer understands what they are agreeing to before the sale is finalised.
Compliance & quality
- Follow the approved script for each campaign, without unauthorised claims or promises.
- Accurately capture customer and policy information at the point of sale.
- Escalate any customer question or objection that falls outside the script or the Agent's own knowledge, rather than guessing.
Target achievement
- Meet the monthly sales count and premium targets set for the campaign(s) sold.
- Track own performance daily against target, and flag early to the Team Leader if falling behind.
Team contribution
- Apply coaching feedback from the Team Leader promptly, including on the very next call.
- Support newer team members informally where appropriate.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications & regulatory
- RE5 (Representative Regulatory Examination) — FAIS accredited, current and in good standing.
- Class of Business (COB): Long-term Insurance — completed and current, in line with FAIS requirements for the products sold — essential.
- Matric / Grade 12.
Experience
- At least 3 years' sales experience dealing with FSP (Financial Services Provider) products — either in the field or in a call center — essential.
- Prior call center or tele sales experience specifically — advantageous, not essential.
- A clear, confident telephone manner and strong spoken English (additional local languages advantageous, campaign-dependent).
Competencies
- Integrity & Compliance Orientation
- Resilience & Rejection Recovery
- Drive & Target Orientation
- Persuasion & Influence
- Communication & Active Listening
- Adaptability & Coachability
- Emotional Intelligence & Composure
