Job description
Sales Manager / Director of Sales
Property: Hyatt Regency Cape Town
Location: Cape Town, South Africa (on-property)
Reports to: General Manager, with a strong dotted line to the Commercial Director, Hyatt Hotels South Africa
Title flexes by experience: Sales Manager or Director of Sales — both profiles will be considered
Employment: Full-time, permanent
About the opportunity
Hyatt Regency Cape Town is part of the global Hyatt portfolio, with the property owned and developed by Millat Global. The hotel is positioned to serve international and domestic business travellers, MICE groups, and high-value leisure guests in one of the world's most iconic destinations.
We are looking for a senior commercial talent to lead the property's sales function across all segments — MICE & Groups, Corporate / Business Travel, and Leisure / Wholesale. The role is offered at Sales Manager or Director of Sales level depending on the strength and depth of the successful candidate's track record.
The role
As the senior sales leader on property, you will own top-line revenue performance, segment mix, and account growth. You will work hand-in-hand with Revenue Management, Distribution, Digital, and the broader Hyatt commercial team in South Africa to deliver against budget and grow the property's market share.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and execute the property sales strategy across MICE, Corporate, and Leisure segments, in line with brand standards and ownership objectives.
- Personally own and grow a portfolio of key corporate, MICE, and trade accounts, with measurable production targets.
- Drive RFP performance, group conversion, and BT production; partner with Revenue Management on rate strategy, displacement, and need-period activation.
- Represent Hyatt Regency Cape Town at trade shows, sales missions, and industry events — locally, regionally, and internationally.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with TMCs, DMCs, tour operators, PCOs, and corporate decision-makers in source markets.
- Leverage the global Hyatt network — including area sales offices, GSOs, and brand programmes — to maximise inbound demand.
- Deliver weekly and monthly production reporting, accurate forecasting input, pipeline visibility, and clear commentary on wins, losses, and risks.
- Partner closely with the brand and ownership (Millat Global) on commercial reviews, business plans, and feasibility input.
- Lead, coach, and develop the on-property sales team (Director of Sales profile) or operate as the senior sales lead on property carrying the full segment book (Sales Manager profile).
What we're looking for
- Minimum 5 years of hotel sales experience in upscale, upper-upscale, or luxury; international branded hotel experience strongly preferred.
- Proven track record in the Cape Town and broader South African market, with established relationships across corporate, MICE, and trade.
- Strong commercial acumen — comfortable with rate strategy, segment mix, displacement analysis, and contracting.
- Experience covering all segments preferred; segment specialists with breadth of exposure will be considered for the Sales Manager level.
- Pre-opening, repositioning, or ramp-up experience is a distinct advantage.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills — comfortable presenting to ownership and brand.
- Proficient in Opera and a sales & catering system (Envision, Delphi, or equivalent), plus standard MS Office tools.
- Right to work in South Africa.
What we offer
- The opportunity to play a defining role in one of the most exciting hospitality stories in Cape Town.
- A career path within the global Hyatt network and the Millat Global portfolio.
- A competitive package commensurate with experience (Sales Manager or Director of Sales level).
- The backing of a global brand combined with the agility and ambition of a focused ownership group.
