SALES REPRESENTATIVE – BOOKS & STATIONERY

Location: Bellville, Western Cape
Department: New Business
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reporting to: Finance Director

ABOUT THE ROLE

Booksite is looking for a confident, energetic and relationship-driven Sales Representative to join our New Business team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for growing sales, developing new business and maintaining strong relationships with our existing customers. You will work closely with schools, parents, bookstores, businesses and suppliers to ensure that customers receive the right products and an excellent level of service.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys meeting people, identifying opportunities, solving problems and taking ownership of their customers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promote and sell books, stationery, educational supplies and related products.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing customers.
  • Conduct customer visits and product presentations.
  • Understand customer requirements and recommend suitable products.
  • Prepare quotations, process orders and follow up on outstanding orders.
  • Achieve agreed monthly and annual sales targets.
  • Introduce customers to new products, promotions and special offers.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity and customer needs.
  • Maintain accurate customer and sales records.
  • Coordinate with the warehouse and administration teams to ensure orders are processed and delivered efficiently.
  • Attend school events, exhibitions, trade shows and promotional activities when required.
  • Handle customer enquiries and complaints professionally.
  • Provide regular sales reports and feedback to management.
  • Take initiative when dealing with stock shortages, supplier issues and last-minute customer requirements.
  • Perform any other reasonable and ad hoc duties that may fall outside the normal scope of the position, as required from time to time, in support of the New Business function and the overall objectives of the Company.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent.
  • Previous sales experience.
  • Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A valid driver's licence and reliable vehicle may be required for customer visits.

Advantageous:

Experience in any of the following areas:

  • Books, stationery or educational products
  • School textbook or educational supply sales
  • Retail or wholesale
  • Publishing
  • Procurement or purchasing
  • School administration
  • Customer relationship management
  • Business development
