Job description

Purpose of the role

To sell new BMW vehicles to individual and business customers, achieving agreed monthly unit and gross profit targets while delivering the standard of customer experience the BMW brand requires. The consultant is expected to build and actively work an own customer base rather than rely solely on walk-in traffic.

Key responsibilities Selling

  • Achieve and exceed agreed monthly new vehicle unit and gross profit targets.
  • Manage the full sales process: prospecting, qualification, needs analysis, product presentation, test drive, negotiation, close and delivery.
  • Present the full BMW range with genuine expertise, including derivative differences, specification, options, pricing and the CO₂ emissions tax implications of each derivative.
  • Demonstrate competent knowledge of electrified product — the i4, i5, i7, iX, iX1 and the plug-in hybrid range — including range, charging, running costs and the practical questions customers ask.
  • Present BMW Financial Services finance and insurance solutions and hand over cleanly to F&I.
  • Position the 5 year / 100 000 km BMW Motorplan, extension options and Original BMW Accessories on every deal.
  • Accurately structure deals and obtain the required approvals before commitment.

Customer base development

  • Prospect actively: own database, referrals, conquest activity, business and fleet contacts, and local networking.
  • Follow up every digital and floor lead within agreed response times and record all activity in the CRM.
  • Maintain contact with delivered customers through the ownership cycle to generate repeat and referral business.
  • Support dealership events, launches, campaigns and off-site activations.

Customer experience and administration

  • Deliver a handover experience that meets BMW standards, including full feature explanation, Owner's Circle registration and service expectations.
  • Maintain and improve personal Customer Satisfaction Index scores.
  • Keep accurate, compliant deal files, complete required documentation and meet all POPIA, FICA, CPA and NCA obligations.
  • Maintain showroom and demonstrator presentation standards.
  • Performance measures
  • New vehicle units delivered per month against target
  • Gross profit per unit
  • Test drive conversion and lead-to-sale conversion rate
  • Lead response time and CRM activity compliance
  • F&I, insurance and Motorplan penetration
  • Customer Satisfaction Index score
  • Growth of own customer base — new prospects added, repeat and referral business generated
  • Product and process certification currency

Minimum requirements — non-negotiable

  • Proven new vehicle sales experience at a BMW franchise dealership.
  • A documented, consistent track record of meeting or exceeding monthly unit and gross profit targets over a sustained period — not a single strong month or year.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and work an own customer base.
  • Sound working knowledge of the BMW product range and retail sales process.
  • Computer literacy, including CRM and dealer management system usage.
  • Valid Code B (08) South African driver's licence, unendorsed.
  • Clear criminal record and clear credit record (ITC).
  • Contactable references from recent employers.
  • Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 minimum.

Advantageous

  • Current BMW South Africa product and sales process certification.
  • Completed BMW electrified / i-range product training.
  • Existing customer base or professional network in the Vaal Triangle region.
  • Fleet or business-to-business sales exposure.
  • Experience in a BMW Retail Next or comparable premium retail environment.

Competencies and attributes

Self-motivated and target-driven without needing to be chased. Genuinely enjoys prospecting, not just closing what walks in. Professional, well presented and articulate. Listens properly and matches product to need rather than selling what is in stock. Resilient, organised and accurate on paperwork. Works well within a team and to a process.
