Job description
Role Purpose
The Call Centre Sales Team Leader is accountable for building and running a team of 12–15 FSP call centre sales agents, taking them from onboarding through to consistently meeting their individual sales targets — while maintaining full regulatory compliance across every campaign the team sells.
This is a working, hands-on leadership role: the Team Leader coaches, monitors, and is directly accountable for the team's activation rate — the % of agents who reach their own individual sales targets each month.
Key Responsibilities
Team leadership & coaching
- Coach agents individually and in small groups, with particular focus on those still working toward their Month 1–3 unlock targets.
- Run structured call reviews and give specific, example-based feedback — not generic advice.
- Identify and develop future high-potential agents, including early leadership opportunities.
Performance management
- Track individual and team performance daily against sales, premium, and activation targets.
- Set graduated targets for new agents that ramp up over their first few months, rather than a single flat target for everyone.
- Address underperformance early and directly — sit with the agent, listen to calls together, and agree specific next steps.
Compliance & quality
- Ensure every agent's calls meet FAIS, POPI, and campaign-specific compliance requirements.
- Escalate any possible compliance breach (for example, a data or consent issue) promptly through the correct channel, rather than resolving it informally.
- Confirm every script is signed off by the relevant client before it goes live on the floor.
Recruitment & floor growth
- Provide input into agent and supervisor recruitment and profiling for the team's campaigns.
- Support onboarding and early ramp-up for new agents joining the team.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications & regulatory
- RE5 (Representative Regulatory Examination) — FAIS accredited, current and in good standing.
- Matric / Grade 12.
- Class of Business (COB): Long-term Insurance — completed and current, in line with FAIS requirements for the products sold — essential.
Experience
- 2–3 years' call centre sales experience within an FSP (Financial Services Provider) environment — essential.
- A demonstrable track record of consistently meeting or exceeding individual sales targets.
- Prior team leadership, supervisory, or mentoring experience — advantageous, not essential.
- Experience selling funeral cover, life cover, or similar short-term/long-term insurance products — advantageous.
Competencies
- Integrity & Compliance Orientation
- Resilience & Rejection Recovery
- Drive & Target Orientation
- Persuasion & Influence
- Communication & Active Listening
- Adaptability & Coachability
- Emotional Intelligence & Composure
- Leadership & Coaching
