Job description

The manager of the Telkom Mobile Truck is responsible for the full operational management of a branded Telkom mobile Truck unit. This includes safely driving and positioning the Truck at strategic locations and events, managing on-site staff, driving sales performance, executing promotional activities, and maintaining the vehicle to required standards. The role requires a results-driven individual with a strong sales background, proven people management skills, and a valid professional driver's licence.

KPA 1: Vehicle Operations & Maintenance

  • Safely operate the Telkom branded mobile truck in accordance with road traffic regulations and company policy at all times.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspection checks, including tyres, oil, water, lights, and brakes.
  • Ensure the truck is clean, roadworthy, and presentable at all times, in line with brand standards.
  • Log and report any vehicle defects, damages, or mechanical issues to the relevant department immediately.
  • Coordinate and schedule routine vehicle maintenance and servicing in line with manufacturer and company requirements.
  • Ensure all vehicle documentation is valid and up to date, including licensing, roadworthy certificates, and insurance.
  • Monitor fuel consumption and submit accurate fuel logs and expense reports as required.
  • Ensure the truck is securely parked and locked when not in use.

KPA 2: Location & Event Management

  • Research and identify high-footfall locations, events, and opportunities suitable for mobile truck activations.
  • Plan and schedule deployment locations in advance, ensuring alignment with regional sales strategy.
  • Liaise with venue owners, event organisers, and local authorities to obtain necessary permits and permissions.
  • Assess the suitability of locations based on target market demographics, competitor presence, and accessibility.
  • Set up and dismantle the mobile truck display area in a professional and timely manner.
  • Coordinate with the regional team to ensure adequate stock, marketing materials, and resources are available at each location.
  • Provide post-activation location reports including foot traffic, sales achieved, and recommendations for future visits.

KPA 3: Sales Performance & Target Achievement

  • Drive sales of Telkom products and services including mobile contracts, devices, fibre, and fixed-line offerings.
  • Meet and exceed monthly sales targets as set by regional management.
  • Ensure all staff are actively engaging with customers and converting leads into sales.
  • Monitor daily sales performance and implement corrective action where targets are not being met.
  • Ensure all sales transactions are processed accurately and in compliance with Telkom and FICA requirements.
  • Conduct credit vetting and verify customer documentation in line with Telkom credit vetting requirements.
  • Upsell and cross-sell products and services to maximise revenue per customer.
  • Track and manage the sales pipeline, following up on leads and enquiries promptly.

KPA 4: Promotions & Marketing Activations

  • Execute Telkom promotional campaigns and activations as directed by regional and marketing teams.
  • Conduct product demonstrations and presentations to prospective customers at truck activations.
  • Ensure the truck and surrounding activation area is branded correctly and in line with Telkom's visual identity guidelines.
  • Distribute promotional materials, leaflets, and offers to attract customers to the truck.
  • Engage with the community and build brand awareness through professional customer interactions.
  • Provide feedback to management on customer responses to promotions and campaign effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with the social media and marketing teams to promote upcoming truck locations and events.

KPA 5: Staff Management & Development

  • Recruit, supervise, and manage on-site team members deployed with the mobile truck.
  • Create and manage staff schedules, ensuring adequate coverage at all activation sites.
  • Conduct morning briefings and motivational sessions to align the team on daily targets and expectations.
  • Monitor individual staff performance and provide regular coaching, guidance, and feedback.
  • Identify training needs and ensure all staff are up to date with Telkom product knowledge and compliance training.
  • Address staff disciplinary matters in accordance with company HR policies and procedures.
  • Foster a positive, high-performance team culture focused on customer service and sales excellence.

KPA 6: Reporting & Administration

  • Submit daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports to regional management.
  • Maintain accurate records of all transactions, customer interactions, and stock movements at each activation.
  • Manage petty cash and operational expenses, submitting claims with supporting documentation timeously.
  • Complete vehicle logbooks, mileage records, and maintenance reports as required.
  • Provide post-activation reports covering sales performance, location feedback, and any operational challenges.
  • Ensure all customer documentation is correctly filed and stored in compliance with POPIA and Telkom requirements.

KPA 7: Compliance & Stakeholder Relations

  • Adhere to all Telkom consumer and business policies, FICA requirements, and credit vetting standards.
  • Ensure the team complies with all relevant legal, regulatory, and company requirements at all times.
  • Attend all required Telkom training sessions and Feathercom operational meetings.
  • Maintain professional and constructive relationships with regional managers, Telkom representatives, and external stakeholders.
  • Act as a brand ambassador for both Feathercom and Telkom at all times whilst on activation.
