Job description
Thomas More College seeks a compassionate and dedicated School Nurse to join our team, committed to ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our school community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assess and treat minor injuries and illnesses, administer medication per regulations, and provide first aid and emergency care.
- Develop individualised care plans for students with chronic conditions, conduct basic health assessments, and manage student and staff medical records with confidentiality.
- Maintain accurate medical records, update health policies, and ensure consent forms are collected annually.
- Oversee the purchasing, and inventory of medical supplies and medication.
- Oversee health needs from crèche to Grade 12, communicate with parents and staff regarding health concerns.
- Attend quarterly OHS meetings, collaborating with the Health & Safety Officer on safety protocols.
- Ensure compliance with the Medicines Control Act, Controlled Substances Act, and OHS Act, with appropriate handling of medical waste.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Adherence to the values, vision, and Christian Ethos of the School.
- Registered with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse.
- Completed a recognised course in dispensing medication.
- At least 4 years’ experience in a similar environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, and staff, explaining health concerns and protocols.
- Empathetic and patient with students, while able to maintain authority and provide clear health guidance.
- Demonstrates discretion and professionalism in handling confidential information.
- Capable of handling emergencies and adapting to the dynamic needs of a school environment.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly with medication and health records.
- Adhere to the school code of conduct.
- Criminal and Sexual Offender’s Clearance Certificate.
