Sculler / Kitchen Steward

Job Purpose

The Sculler is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic kitchen by washing dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment, while assisting with general cleaning duties and supporting the kitchen team. This role is essential to ensuring efficient kitchen operations and compliance with food safety standards.

Key ResponsibilitiesDishwashing

• Wash all dishes, cutlery, glassware, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils promptly.
• Hand wash delicate or oversized items when necessary.
• Ensure all washed items are clean, sanitized, and stored correctly.

Kitchen Cleaning

• Keep all kitchen floors clean by sweeping and mopping regularly.
• Clean walls, work surfaces, sinks, drains, and food preparation areas.
• Empty rubbish bins and replace bin liners throughout each shift.
• Dispose of waste in accordance with company procedures.
• Clean refrigerators, freezers, shelves, and storage areas as instructed.
• Assist with deep cleaning according to the kitchen cleaning schedule.

Equipment Care

• Clean and maintain kitchen equipment after use.
• Report damaged or faulty equipment immediately.
• Ensure cleaning chemicals are stored and used safely.

Food Safety & Hygiene

• Follow all food safety and hygiene procedures.
• Maintain high personal hygiene standards.
• Wear the required uniform and personal protective equipment.
• Assist in maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations.

Kitchen Support

• Help receive and unpack deliveries when required.
• Assist chefs with basic food preparation as directed (e.g., peeling vegetables, washing produce).
• Refill cleaning supplies and notify management when stock is running low.
• Support the kitchen team during busy service periods.

General Duties

• Arrive on time and ready for work.
• Maintain a positive attitude and work well within a team.
• Follow all company policies and procedures.
• Carry out any other reasonable duties assigned by management.

Minimum Requirements

• Previous kitchen or cleaning experience is advantageous but not essential.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
• Basic understanding of hygiene and food safety principles is beneficial.

Pay: R30,00 - R33,00 per hour
