We are a growing fashion start-up looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Seamstress / Tailoring Assistant to join our team.

Our primary focus is high-quality tailoring, with a long-term goal of developing a specialist luxury tailoring operation producing beautifully constructed shirts, suits, workwear and other tailored garments.

As a start-up, the role will initially cover a variety of garment-making projects while the business grows. This includes work for our fashion brand, a dog clothing and dog beds business, as well as CMT (Cut, Make & Trim) orders from external clients.

The Role

Your primary long-term focus will be tailoring and high-quality garment construction. You will work with provided patterns and be expected to produce garments accurately, neatly and consistently.

The role may also include:

• Constructing shirts, suits, workwear and other tailored garments
• Working from provided patterns and garment specifications
• Sewing stretch garments for our dog clothing range
• Constructing dog beds when required
• Completing CMT garment orders for external clients
• Assisting with cutting, preparation, pressing and finishing
• Performing alterations and adjustments where required
• Maintaining a high standard of garment finishing and quality control
• Working efficiently while prioritising accuracy and attention to detail

• Has strong sewing and garment construction skills
• Can confidently understand and work from patterns
• Has experience with or a strong interest in tailoring
• Has excellent attention to detail
• Takes pride in producing clean, precise and high-quality workmanship
• Understands the importance of accurate construction and finishing
• Can work independently and follow garment specifications
• Is willing to learn and continuously improve their technical skills
• Is reliable, organised and takes ownership of their work
• Has a genuine interest in developing their career in luxury tailoring

An Important Part of the Opportunity

This is a start-up environment, so flexibility is important.

The additional work in dog clothing, dog beds, and CMT production will provide supplemental work and income as we establish and grow the business.

However, the long-term direction of this position is luxury tailoring.

We are therefore particularly interested in someone who wants to develop their skills beyond general garment production and become highly proficient in tailoring, garment construction, and premium finishing.

Experience

Required:

• Sewing/garment construction
• Ability to understand and follow sewing patterns
• Good knowledge of technical construction standards
• Strong attention to detail

Advantageous:

• Tailoring experience
• Experience making shirts, jackets, suits or workwear
• Experience working with stretch fabrics
• Experience with industrial sewing machines
• Experience with alterations and finishing
• Formal fashion or garment-making training
