Seasonal Live-in Guesthouse Host / Caretaker

About the position

Haus am Strand – on the Beach is seeking a friendly, trustworthy and practically minded person to host guests and help oversee our beachfront property during the summer season.

We are a 4-star beachfront guesthouse consisting of eight self-catering apartments in Wilderness. This is a guest-facing, hands-on position rather than a conventional hotel management role.

The successful candidate will live on the property and help create a friendly, welcoming and relaxed experience for our guests.

Responsibilities

Welcome arriving guests and help them settle into their apartments.

Assist with luggage, including carrying cases to first-floor apartments.

Respond to bookings and guest enquiries through WhatsApp, booking.com, other channels.

Complete basic guesthouse administration.

Process cash and card payments accurately.

Assist guests with Wi-Fi, TV, Netflix, and other simple technical requests.

Provide basic information about Wilderness, restaurants, attractions and activities.

Monitor the property and address / report practical issues.

Communicate larger maintenance issues to the owners or appropriate contractors.

Assist with social media posts, if capable.

Be available for agreed flexible hours, including weekends.

Essential qualities

- Warm, friendly and genuinely enjoys interacting with people.

- Exceptionally honest, trustworthy and responsible.

- Capable of working independently

- Practical and solution-oriented

- Comfortable with WhatsApp & basic hospitality software

- Physically able to assist with guest luggage

- Excellent, contactable employment references

- Able to live on the property for the duration of the contract

Advantageous experience

- Previous guesthouse, hotel, lodge or hospitality experience

- Experience processing cash and card payments

- Booking or reservations experience

- Knowledge of Wilderness and the Garden Route

- Basic Facebook or social-media experience

What we offer

- Salary of R9,000–R11,000 per month, depending on experience

- Live-in accommodation on the property

- A relaxed working environment in a beautiful beachfront location

- Support from one or two cleaning staff during the busy season

- The possibility of occasional part-time winter work when the owners are away

- Please note that additional winter work may be offered according to operational needs but is not guaranteed.
