About the Role

The Security Systems Technician is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance and support of electronic security systems across client sites. The role ensures the reliability and optimal performance of security infrastructure including CCTV, access control, alarm monitoring, IoT devices and related technologies.

The incumbent will provide technical support to operational teams, conduct preventative and corrective maintenance, perform site assessments and installations, and respond to technical faults to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.

What you will bring

Inherent requirements for the position (non-negotiable)

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Relevant qualification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years' experience installing and maintaining electronic security systems.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Willingness to travel extensively to client sites.
  • Ability to work after hours and respond to emergency call-outs when required.

Additional demonstrable requirements

  • Experience with CCTV, access control, alarm systems and remote video verification (RVV).
  • Experience installing and supporting IoT security devices.
  • Sound knowledge of networking principles relating to electronic security systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and software faults.
  • Experience conducting site assessments and preparing quotations.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices.
  • Good report writing and administrative skills.
  • Strong planning, organisational and time management abilities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Security systems certifications will be advantageous.

What you will be doing

  • Install, configure and commission CCTV, access control, alarm monitoring, RVV and IoT security systems.
  • Conduct client site assessments and recommend appropriate security technology solutions.
  • Install, test and maintain electronic security equipment in accordance with company standards.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair system hardware and software faults.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and system health checks.
  • Upgrade existing security systems and ensure compatibility with current infrastructure.
  • Support control room operations by ensuring optimal functionality of all integrated security systems.
  • Configure and maintain office access control and door management systems.
  • Perform software updates, system backups and hardware maintenance.
  • Train operational personnel and end users on the effective use of installed security systems.
  • Respond to technical breakdowns and provide after-hours support where required.
  • Maintain accurate installation, maintenance and service records.
  • Prepare quotations for new installations, upgrades and repairs.
  • Monitor and control technical stock and equipment inventory.
  • Compile and submit weekly reports covering completed work, ongoing projects, system performance and outstanding faults.
  • Liaise with internal departments and clients to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Ensure all work complies with company policies, industry regulations and applicable quality standards.
  • Adhere to the Excellerate Services Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2015) and all Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) requirements.
