Job description

Join the premier crypto-native accounting firm recognized by Forbes as a 2025 and 2026 Best-In-State Top CPA.

We serve high-net-worth crypto investors, protocols, startups, and blockchain-enabled businesses with elite tax, accounting, and advisory services.

We are hiring a senior to own and drive crypto engagements from intake to delivery, review and elevate the work of our staff, and guarantee audit-ready output for tax, audit, and financial reporting. This is senior-level ownership, review, and judgment work.

We fill this seat as a Senior Reconciliation Analyst or a Senior Accountant depending on your background. Both carry the same three pillars and the same standards below.

You are the quality bar between staff and firm leadership. The role has three core pillars, and all three are part of the job, not optional extras:

  1. Run engagements. Own them end to end and drive them in real time.
  2. Develop people. Mentor and raise the staff in your pod.
  3. Help recruit. Represent the firm and help build the team you will lead.

Camuso CPA is not hiring seat-fillers. We are building a senior layer of crypto-native operators who make the firm scale, people who own outcomes, raise the people around them, and deliver clean work on time, every time.

Why This Role Is Rare

  • You will hold a senior seat at a Forbes-recognized U.S. firm in the most complex niche in modern accounting: on-chain transaction tracing and high-volume digital asset accounting.
  • You will work directly with the founder, a nationally recognized authority in digital asset tax and accounting.
  • There is room above you. We are building toward multiple pods and a manager layer as we scale, and high performers rise with the firm.
  • You will build and lead your own pod and help shape the team you eventually help run.
  • You will deepen rare, transferable expertise: senior crypto reconciliation review, subledger integrity, audit-ready quality control, and team development.
  • You will join an established, growing South African team to lead and grow with.
  • You will build expertise in one of the fastest-growing and most underserved disciplines in professional services, where qualified specialists are in global short supply and the skills only grow more valuable.

This Role Is Not for You If:

  • You prefer to work heads-down on your own rather than driving work transparently and communicating proactively.
  • You are not comfortable giving clear, specific status updates and being held to them.
  • You would rather fix problems yourself than coach the people under you to fix them.
  • You need significant hand-holding to operate at a senior level.
  • You want to focus only on your own work, with no interest in developing people or helping the firm grow.
  • You cannot work U.S. EST hours full-time (6am to 3pm EST).
  • You are working multiple jobs or freelance gigs.
  • You have zero interest in crypto, DeFi, or web3.
  • You cannot pass a background check.
  • You want soft deadlines, low pressure, and soft accountability.

About Camuso CPA

Camuso CPA is a Forbes Best-in-State Top CPA firm based in the United States, crypto-native since 2016. We were the first CPA firm in the U.S. to accept crypto and one of the earliest firms in the country to specialize exclusively in digital asset accounting and taxation. Our work spans crypto tax preparation, portfolio accounting, cost-basis reconstruction, prediction market taxation, Web3 startup accounting, and IRS audit defense.

Our founder, Patrick Camuso, CPA, is a former Deloitte Tax Associate with two publications in Tax Notes on digital asset taxation and prediction market tax classification, co-authored with the former head of the IRS Office of Digital Assets. He serves on the AICPA Digital Asset Task Force, has spoken at ETHDenver and other leading Web3 conferences, and has delivered CPE presentations on digital asset tax and accounting, including 1099-DA compliance for Kaplan.

Forbes called us "Leading the Charge on Crypto Accounting." We have been featured in Forbes, Bloomberg Tax, Business Insider, Financial Times, Accounting Today, MarketWatch, Morningstar, Wired, Yahoo Finance, Vice, and Tax Notes, and we were among the first U.S. CPA firms to receive inbound AI-generated client referrals.

We have an established, growing remote team in South Africa, and we are building a firm that understands the complexity of on-chain finance, supports elite investors and founders, and redefines what remote accounting can be.

The Role: Senior Reconciliation Analyst or Senior Accountant

This is a full-time, remote contractor role based in South Africa, working U.S. EST hours.

You will own engagements across crypto investors (traders, LPs, DeFi user), Web3 companies, funds and digital founders.

Core Responsibilities

Engagement ownership and review

  • Own each assigned engagement from Day 0.
  • Run daily staff oversight.
  • Review staff work in-flight as it is produced.
  • Trace fund flows across wallets, chains, bridges, and centralized exchanges, and read block explorers fluently. You must know the work cold to review it.

Staff development

  • Mentor and develop the staff in your pod through structured weekly 1:1s, shadow and reverse-shadow, and controlled, on-topic cross-training.
  • Own and maintain SOPs and pattern-library entries for your pod's work.
  • Deliver quarterly written development reviews and drive staff to the firm's quality bar.

Recruiting assistance

  • Represent the firm at career fairs and recruiting events as a senior face of the team.

How We Measure Success

  • Timeliness and accuracy of the engagements you own.
  • Adherence to firm SOPs and protocols.
  • Quality of work reaching leadership: clean, audit-ready, minimal rework.
  • Staff under you visibly leveling up.
  • Concrete, transparent communication and accurate engagement trackers.
  • Contribution to recruiting and to SOP and pattern-library growth.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Accounting, Finance, or Information Systems (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated senior-level experience in crypto reconciliation and review, or in crypto and Web3 accounting.
  • A track record of reliable, on-time delivery.
  • Experience reviewing and correcting other accountants' or analysts' work.
  • Self-sufficient. Operates at a senior level without heavy oversight.
  • Fluent written English and a clear, concrete communicator.
  • Comfortable in an SOP-driven, systemized, fully transparent workflow.
  • Located in South Africa and able to work U.S. EST hours.

Must Be Able To:

  • Own and drive a reconciliation engagement end to end.
  • Review staff work and return it with specific, gate-referenced corrections.
  • Trace fund flows across wallets, chains, bridges, and centralized exchanges, and interpret CSV exports and DeFi histories.
  • Read block explorers across chains.
  • Mentor staff and run structured development.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Supervisory or team-lead experience.
  • Prior senior role at a crypto-native accounting or tax firm.
  • Crypto forensic or blockchain analysis exposure.

Career Development and Growth Track

This is a senior seat with a path above it. As the firm scales, strong seniors move toward owning multiple pods and into a manager layer. Promotion is performance-based, not time-based. We advance on proof and results, not potential or tenure.

Security, Compliance, and Data Expectations

You must maintain a secure work environment: password-protected devices and cloud storage, no public or shared devices, no open Wi-Fi, and VPN strongly preferred.
