Job description

Department: Finance

Reports To: Financial Director

Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Purpose

The Accountant is responsible for managing the financial and statutory accounting functions of the Frimax Group. The role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory and tax legislation, effective payroll support, audit coordination, and the integrity of all financial records while providing financial guidance to management and directors.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting

· Prepare monthly accounting records for the Frimax Group.

· Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.

· Process monthly and year-end journal entries.

· Prepare and maintain year-end audit working paper files.

· Ensure all inter-company loan accounts, ISA accounts, and directors' loan accounts are accurately reconciled.

· Reconcile all company loan accounts on a monthly basis.

· Perform monthly VAT reconciliations across multiple accounting systems.

· Verify and approve all sales credit notes.

· Verify and approve all supplier credit notes.

Taxation & SARS Compliance

· Prepare and submit all SARS returns within statutory deadlines.

· Ensure the Frimax Group remains fully tax compliant.

· Investigate and resolve SARS queries and correspondence.

· Apply for and process tax directives where required.

· Ensure Customs registration numbers remain valid and updated.

· Verify payroll-related statutory submissions, including:

· Employment Tax Incentive (ETI)

· Skills Development Levy (SDL)

· Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF)

Payroll Support

· Assist with payroll administration

· Process payroll terminations.

· Process employee reinstatements.

· Update employee banking details.

· Ensure payroll statutory calculations and submissions are accurate.

Audit & Compliance

· Liaise with external auditors throughout interim and annual audits.

· Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.

· Provide financial information and advice to Directors during audit processes.

· Handle and coordinate B-BBEE verification audits.

· Ensure the Company's B-BBEE Level is maintained and all supporting documentation is available.

· Assist with DTI and IDC audits and compliance requirements.

· Review and verify reports for WCA (Compensation Fund) submissions.

· Prepare and submit Annual Returns to the relevant statutory bodies.

Banking & Financial Administration

· Maintain communication with financial institutions regarding banking matters.

· Assist with banking documentation and account administration.

· Support cash flow and banking requirements as directed.

Compliance & Governance

· Ensure compliance with South African tax legislation and other applicable financial legislation.

· Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.

· Ensure all statutory deadlines are met.

· Recommend improvements to financial controls and accounting processes.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

· Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

· SAIPA/SAICA articles or professional registration would be advantageous.

Experience

· Minimum 5 years' accounting experience.

· Experience with group accounting.

· Experience dealing directly with SARS.

· Experience with VAT, payroll, taxation, audits, and statutory compliance.

· Experience preparing management accounts.

Knowledge

· South African Tax Legislation

· Income Tax Act

· Companies Act

· Payroll legislation (ETI, UIF, SDL, PAYE)

· B-BBEE legislation

· Customs compliance

· Audit processes

Skills

· Strong financial and analytical skills.

· Strong organisational and planning skills.

· Ability to meet strict deadlines.

· Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

· Experience with accounting and payroll software.
