Job description
Buzz Accounting is a fast-growing UK accountancy practice supporting a varied portfolio of clients — from sole traders and freelancers through to established limited companies and groups. We pair genuine technical depth with modern, cloud-first tooling to give clients proactive, advisory-led support rather than just year-end compliance.
We're at an exciting stage of growth, and we're building a team of people who want to do excellent work, take real ownership of their clients, and develop into leaders within the firm.
The Role
We're looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to take ownership of a mixed portfolio spanning limited companies and sole traders. You'll be the day-to-day point of contact for your clients, responsible for the quality and timeliness of their compliance work, and trusted to spot opportunities to add value beyond the numbers.
This is a hands-on senior role with a leadership dimension. As well as managing your own portfolio, you'll review the work of more junior team members, support their development, and help shape how the practice delivers work as we scale.
You'll suit this role if you're technically strong on UK accounting and tax, comfortable owning client relationships, and ready to step up (or continue) into a leadership position.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of clients across limited companies and sole traders, acting as their primary point of contact.
- Prepare and review statutory accounts for limited companies under UK GAAP (FRS 102 / FRS 105).
- Prepare and review sole trader and partnership accounts and self-assessment tax returns.
- Prepare and review corporation tax computations and returns (CT600).
- Oversee VAT returns and ensure clients remain compliant (including MTD obligations).
- Review work prepared by junior team members, providing clear feedback and on-the-job coaching.
- Manage workflow and deadlines across your portfolio, keeping clients ahead of filing dates.
- Build strong client relationships and identify advisory opportunities (e.g. profit extraction, structuring, planning).
- Liaise with HMRC and Companies House on clients' behalf.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the firm's processes, templates, and use of technology.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Minimum 5 years' accounting experience, with a track record of delivering high-quality work
- At least 2–3 years in private practice, preparing accounts and tax for a range of clients.
- Strong UK accounting and tax experience — confident with UK GAAP, corporation tax, self-assessment, and VAT.
- Leadership experience — you've reviewed others' work, managed or mentored team members, or led on client delivery.
- Comfortable owning client relationships and communicating clearly with non-financial business owners.
- Well organised, deadline-driven, and able to manage a varied portfolio independently.
Desirable (a bonus, not essential)
- Experience using Xero
- A recognised qualification
- Experience with cloud-based practice tools and automation.
- Exposure to advisory work, management accounts, or systems implementation.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary
- Hybrid / flexible working
- A genuine path to leadership in a growing firm.
- A modern, cloud-first practice where you're trusted to do great work.
- A varied client base that keeps the work interesting.
Pay: From R600 000,00 per year
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Pretoria, Gauteng
