Job description

Working with the Financial Manager who leads the Properties, Assets and Philanthropic Trusts of the group, this is an opportunity to join a company whose programs not only safeguard communities in practical ways, they also conserve and nurture our natural environments. We are recruiting for a proactive, detail-oriented candidate who is ready to take ownership of the role, contribute confidently to daily operations in an interesting environment.

This Senior Accountant role sits in Central Office and supports one or more group entities. The focus is on month-end close,

general ledger integrity, balance sheet ownership and the preparation of audit-ready reporting packs for the Financial Manager.

The role provides strong financial control and systems discipline (including Business Central), manages key reconciliations and

intercompany alignment, and supports the CFO’s budgeting and forecasting cycles by consolidating inputs and highlighting

variances and risks.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Tertiary education in Accounting or Finance.

· Over 5 years accounting experience.

· MS Business Central experience is advantageous.

· Happy to work well in an open plan office.

· Be comfortable doing a lot of transaction data capturing.

· Exceptional time management.

· Be able to interact with both internal teams and external stakeholders.

· Own vehicle preferred (the role is based in Stellenbosch)

Banking & Payments

· Review cash book updates and reconcile the bank accounts monthly.

· First review and release of all payments and inter account transfers, in line with delegated authority.

· Cash flow management and short-term projections; escalate funding risks and timing issues to the FM.

· Maintain payment governance: ensure supporting documents, approvals and beneficiary/banking detail

verification are in place before release.

Creditors Payments and Vendor Process Management

· Own and review creditors age analyses and payment proposals; resolve reconciling items and support payment

prioritisation with the FM.

· Manage supplier statement reconciliations and queries; maintain clear follow-up notes and timely resolution.

· Oversee AP control/clearing accounts (e.g., GRIR/stock-intransit where applicable) and process month-end

accruals for incomplete invoices.

· Maintain vendor master data governance in Business Central (banking, VAT, payment terms) once approved,

ensuring auditready documentation.

· Review invoice coding, approvals and cut-off to support a clean month-end close across entities**.**

Debtors’ Statements

· Management and review of Debtors Age Analysis and collection status; escalate risks to the FM.

· Liaise with customers on account queries, remittances and allocations; ensure clear audit trail for adjustments.

· Reconcile debtors/revenue control accounts and support monthend bad debt provisioning schedules for FM review.

Corporate Credit Cards

· Review corporate credit card reconciliations.

Monthly Journals

· Prepare and post month-end journals: accruals, prepayments, provisions, allocations and reclasses.

· Process depreciation journals and recurring entries (e.g., fleet/fuel and shared service recharges where applicable).

· Maintain supporting schedules for all journals (accruals/prepayments/provisions) and ensure a clear audit trail.

· Review postings for correct coding/costing and resolve misallocations before reporting is finalised.

Month-end Close & Reporting

· Coordinate the month-end close process for assigned entities (checklists, cut-offs, journal timelines) and ensure

a clean audit trail.

· Review the trial balance for completeness and reasonableness (control accounts, unusual movements) and resolve

issues before reporting.

· Prepare month-end reporting packs and management account support schedules for the FM, including key

reconciliations and commentary.

· Perform variance analysis and provide clear commentary on material movements

(actuals vs prior month/budget where applicable).

· Support the CFO’s budget and forecast process by consolidating inputs from budget owners, checking

completeness/logic, and summarising key variances and trends for FM review.

· Maintain and update month-end working papers (balance sheet file, supporting schedules) to enable

consistent reporting across entities.

Intercompany

· Process and reconcile intercompany balances and transactions across entities; investigate differences and

clear reconciling items timeously.

· Prepare and/or review intercompany recharges and invoices in line with agreed support schedules and approvals.

· Coordinate month-end intercompany confirmations and ensure balances align for reporting and audit.

Fixed Assets

· Maintain the fixed asset register for assigned entities (additions, disposals, transfers) and reconcile to the trial balance.

· Review depreciation runs/journals and ensure useful lives, categories and capex coding are applied consistently.

· Support capex reporting by maintaining supporting schedules and collating documentation for approvals and audit.

Balance sheet reconciliations

· Own and review reconciliations for assigned balance sheet accounts, including key control accounts

(VAT, PAYE where applicable, creditors/debtors control, intercompany, accruals/prepayments).

· Investigate variances, resolve reconciling items and maintain a month-end balance sheet file with supporting

schedules for the FM and auditors.

Operational Stock (Oversight)

· Not responsible for day-to-day stock processes at farms/sites; rely on operational teams for stock counts,

movements and stock control.

· At month-end, review stock-related journals and reconciliations (as provided by operational finance)

to ensure the GL is complete and aligns to reporting.

· Support inter-entity stock accounting entries (reclasses/recharges) processed centrally, based on approved

supporting schedules from operations.

Revenue Interfaces (Oversight)

· Not responsible for sales processing or daily cash-ups at sites; operational teams own

POS/cash-up processes.

· Provide Central Office oversight by reviewing revenue and receipting control accounts/clearing

accounts at month-end and investigating reconciling items.

· Support debtors and revenue reconciliations (where revenue flows into Business Central),

and escalate material variances or risks to the FM.

Financial Controls & Systems

· Maintain strong financial controls: review supporting documentation, ensure approvals are in place,

and enforce cutoffs and coding standards.

· Support user access and segregation-of-duties controls in Business Central and related systems

(request/verify changes, maintain evidence for audit).

· Maintain master data governance (vendors, customers, items where relevant) and ensure changes

are authorised and documented.

· Identify process improvements and automate/standardise recurring schedules and reporting

packs to improve month-end efficiency.

Taxes

· Prepare VAT workings, reconciliations and supporting schedules for FM review and submission.

· Prepare monthly tax packs relevant to the entities (including excise/SAWIS where applicable)

and maintain audit-ready supporting files.

· Support statutory and payroll-related tax reconciliations where required

(e.g., PAYE/withholding schedules provided by payroll/finance), and escalate exceptions.

· Coordinate and support responses to SARS/statutory queries by preparing reconciliations

and source documents with the FM and advisors.

Audits

· Prepare the annual external audit file for assigned entities (balance sheet recons, supporting

schedules, key contracts and evidence), ensuring it is complete and audit-ready.

· Coordinate audit requests (PBC lists), track delivery dates, and respond to auditor queries

in collaboration with the FM and finance team.
