PIC Specialists LLC is seeking a highly experienced Senior Aerospace Design Checker to provide independent technical checking and assurance of aerospace engineering drawings, 3D models and associated product-definition data prior to release.
This is a senior technical position for an aerospace professional with extensive industry experience and a proven track record in design, detailing and independent checking.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that engineering deliverables are technically correct, complete, unambiguous, manufacturable, inspectable and compliant with applicable customer, company and aerospace standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and Drawing Checking
Perform detailed independent checking of aerospace engineering deliverables, including:
- Detail and manufacturing drawings.
- Assembly drawings.
- Installation drawings.
- Modification drawings.
- 3D CAD models.
- Mechanical and structural layouts.
- Parts lists and Bills of Material.
- Engineering changes and revisions.
- Interface definitions.
- Associated product-definition documentation.
Ensure that drawings and models correctly and completely communicate the intended engineering requirements.
Technical Verification
Verify engineering product definition for:
- Accuracy.
- Completeness.
- Fit, form and function.
- Correct dimensions and tolerances.
- Appropriate datum structures.
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Fits and clearances.
- Interface compatibility.
- Assembly requirements.
- Manufacturing feasibility.
- Inspectability.
- Installation requirements.
- Accessibility and maintainability.
- Configuration integrity.
Apply extensive aerospace experience to identify potential problems before drawings or models are released to manufacturing.
Cross-Functional Support
Work closely with:
- Design Engineers.
- Aerospace Designers.
- Detail Designers.
- Stress Engineers.
- Manufacturing Engineers.
- Production Engineering.
- Quality Assurance.
- Inspection.
- Tooling.
- Configuration Management.
- Programme and Project Management.
- Customer engineering representatives.
Provide practical technical input to resolve drawing, design, manufacturing and installation queries.
Mentoring and Engineering Quality
Use extensive aerospace experience to support and develop less-experienced members of the engineering team.
Responsibilities may include:
- Mentoring designers and checkers.
- Improving drawing quality.
- Identifying recurring engineering errors.
- Supporting engineering standardization.
- Developing checking practices and checklists.
- Sharing aerospace design best practice.
- Supporting lessons-learned activities.
- Improving consistency across engineering deliverables.
The Senior Aerospace Design Checker should contribute to raising the overall standard of engineering output within PIC Specialists.
Experience:
The preferred candidate should have:
- Approximately 25+ years of relevant aerospace industry experience, or demonstrably equivalent career-level expertise.
- Extensive experience in aerospace design, detailing and engineering drawing production.
- Significant experience performing formal independent design and drawing checking.
- Demonstrable experience checking complex aerospace components, assemblies and installations.
- Advanced knowledge of aerospace engineering drawing practices.
- Strong practical knowledge of GD&T.
- Extensive understanding of aerospace manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Experience working within controlled engineering-release environments.
- Strong knowledge of engineering change and configuration-control processes.
- Experience identifying technical and product-definition issues prior to manufacturing release.
- The confidence and technical credibility to challenge experienced designers and engineers where necessary.
Qualifications:
A relevant technical or engineering qualification would be advantageous, including:
- Aeronautical Engineering
- Aerospace Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mechanical Design
- Engineering Design and Draughting
- Equivalent recognized technical qualifications
However, proven aerospace experience, technical competence and a substantial checking track record will be highly valued.

Compensation & Benefits:
Base Salary: R720,600.00 annually
