Sanlam Life and Savings (SLS) is focused on serving our retail and corporate clients in South Africa and further developing our strategic advantages in the South African market. Sanlam Life and Savings consists of the following business units Retail Mass, Corporate, Risk and Savings, Glacier and various business enabling functions. The Sanlam Life and Savings Office provides strategic direction, coordination and support to the four clusters, as well as performing governance oversight that includes assurance provided by second line of defense functions in SLS, to enable us to meet our business objectives. What will you do?
The Senior C# Full Stack Developer builds and delivers complex enterprise applications, integrations, APIs, and cloud-native solutions across the SLS ecosystem, implementing secure, reliable, and maintainable components across web applications, services, APIs, and platform integrations.
The role ensures that all solutions adhere to engineering standards, including API design and versioning practices, integration patterns, architectural guardrails, and CI/CD pipeline quality gates to ensure scalable, reliable, and maintainable releases across the broader product ecosystem.
Working under the technical direction of the Technical Lead, the role provides technical leadership on the selection and adoption of cloud services, integration technologies, software engineering practices, and platform capabilities. The role translates solution designs into high-quality implementations, strengthens engineering discipline through code reviews and collaboration, and improves operational resilience through testing, observability, and production-grade engineering practices.
The Senior Developer mentors engineers across squads, uplifts engineering maturity, and drives design decisions that ensure long-term platform sustainability, architectural consistency, and alignment with strategic business outcomes.
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, Dataverse, and Power Platform is advantageous but not required.What will make you successful in this role? Architecture & Governance
- Implement integration architecture across the product domain, covering synchronous and asynchronous communication patterns, event-driven solutions using Service Bus and Event Grid, and API-first service boundaries.
- Own and govern Azure API Management (APIM) implementations, including workspaces, gateways, routing, policies, and developer experience.
- Establish and maintain REST API standards, including resource modeling, versioning strategies, request and response validation, pagination, and error handling.
- Define and standardize integration and orchestration patterns using technologies such as Azure Functions, Durable Functions, Logic Apps, and custom C# services.
- Engineer resilience patterns across distributed systems, including retries, circuit breakers, fault isolation, idempotency, and timeout strategies.
- Embed security best practices such as least privilege access, secure authentication, authorization, secrets management, and compliance-aligned logging.
Release & Quality Leadership
- Establish and continuously improve quality gates across environments, including unit testing, integration testing, contract testing, performance validation, and security testing.
- Ensure CI/CD pipelines enforce engineering and quality standards consistently across delivery teams.
- Drive observability and monitoring practices through logging, telemetry, trace correlation, dashboards, and actionable alerting.
- Use operational insights to prioritize technical debt reduction, resiliency improvements, and performance optimization.
- Lead incident reviews and root cause analysis activities, ensuring lessons learned are translated into action plans and backlog improvements.
- Guide teams in adopting shift-left testing practices, automated quality feedback loops, and effective test data management strategies.
People Leadership & Ways of Working
- Mentor developers through technical coaching, architectural guidance, code reviews, pair programming, and engineering best practices.
- Partner closely with Solution Architects and Technical Leads to shape roadmaps, influence design decisions, and ensure architectural consistency.
- Collaborate with Data and Analytics teams to establish and maintain reliable, versioned data integration patterns.
- Support QA and Test Automation engineers by enabling appropriate test environments, seeded data, mocks, stubs, and automation capabilities.

- 6-10+ years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on C#, .NET, cloud-native development, APIs, and enterprise integrations.
- Proven experience delivering enterprise-scale applications and leading complex technical initiatives.
- Experience establishing and promoting engineering standards, API governance, CI/CD practices, and quality engineering principles.
- Demonstrated success improving resilience, performance, observability, scalability, and security in distributed systems.
- Experience working within Agile delivery teams and modern software engineering environments.
- Experience within insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries will be advantageous.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365, Dataverse, and Power Platform will be advantageous. Knowledge and Skills
- Strong experience in C# and .NET / .NET Core development.
- Experience with ASP.NET Core, MVC, and Web API development.
- Solid understanding of object-oriented design principles and software engineering best practices.
- Strong understanding of design patterns and clean code principles.
- Experience with SQL Server and relational databases.
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and API-first development practices.
- Experience with source control systems such as Git and Azure DevOps.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure (not negotiable).
- Knowledge of container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and Infrastructure as Code.
- Understanding of monitoring, observability, logging, and operational support practices.
- Experience with event-driven architectures, messaging platforms, and enterprise integrations.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration skills.
- Experience within insurance or financial services will be advantageous.
Exposure to Microsoft Dynamics 365, Dataverse, and Power Platform will be advantageous.Qualification
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
- Relevant Microsoft, Azure, AWS, or cloud-related certifications will be advantageous.
- Microsoft AZ-204 (Azure Developer Associate) certification will be advantageous.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, CI/CD tooling, and modern development practices.
- Experience with application lifecycle management (ALM), release management, and environment governance.
