Senior Custom Craftsman (Wood Worker)

Location: Cape Town
Employment Type: Part-Time or Full-Time (depending on the successful applicant)

We are looking for an experienced and skilled Senior Custom Craftsman (Wood Worker) to join our team.

This position is ideal for someone with extensive woodworking experience who takes pride in producing high-quality custom furniture. The successful candidate must be able to work independently, solve problems, and turn customer ideas into finished products.

Key Responsibilities

• Manufacture high-quality custom furniture and bespoke pieces.
• Interpret customer photos, sketches, and design concepts to determine dimensions, construction methods, and materials required.
• Plan and build furniture from concept through to completion.
• Select appropriate materials and ensure a high standard of workmanship.
• Operate woodworking machinery and power tools safely and efficiently.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment.
• Assist with other workshop duties when custom furniture projects are limited (for full-time applicants).

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years' experience in woodworking, cabinet making, furniture manufacturing, or a related trade.
• Relevant woodworking qualification or proven industry experience will be considered.
• Ability to accurately interpret photographs, drawings, and customer concepts.
• Strong understanding of furniture construction techniques.
• Excellent attention to detail and pride in producing quality workmanship.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Physically fit and capable of handling the demands of workshop work.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to meet deadlines.
• Valid driver's licence is advantageous but not essential.

• Part-Time / Project-Based: Suitable for someone available when custom furniture projects arise.
• Full-Time: For applicants willing to assist with additional workshop duties during quieter periods.

Remuneration

Salary or hourly rate will be discussed during the interview and will be based on experience and skill level.
