Job description

General Description

To ensure that that all machines and equipment are kept in a good and reliable condition, for maximum production and lowest downtime. Overall responsibility is the electrical maintenance and repairs at all factories under UPP and UPM so that they are well managed and that the support to the operational areas is sustained at an appropriate level to reduce downtime, minimize maintenance costs and ensure optimal asset life. Will be required to be available after hours and perform standby duties as and when the situation calls for it. In addition, the senior electrician should have good knowledge of control and instrumentation and be able to troubleshoot and solve such problems.

Key Performance Indicators

Productivity

- To provide technical support to end users, personnel within the Engineering Department and third-party Contractors.

- To troubleshoot software, hardware, and electrical problems and find and solve the root causes

- Responsible for electrical and C&I shutdown maintenance work on machines.

- Responsible for developing & executing preventative maintenance schedules on electrical equipment .

- To perform scheduled maintenance routines (routine debugging, routine backups, etc)..

- To be involved in new projects and implementation thereof.

- To adhere to artisan utilization requirements.

- To ensure the availability of necessary critical electrical & instrument spares.

- To use RCA methods to ensure permanent repairs are realized on electrical and C&I related breakdowns..

- To implement Continuous improvement projects.

- To assist the operations wherever necessary to improve the cost base

- To develop new systems and modify and maintain existing systems to ensure optimal performance.

- To assist in training of junior staff in both electrical and C&I tasks.

- To assist the operations wherever necessary to improve productivity

To ensure the most cost-effective repairs are undertaken

Quality

- To ensure that all machines and equipment are in good working order to prevent quality defects.

- To ensure that workmanship is of a high calibre preventing rework and unnecessary downtime.

- Ensure calibrations on key instruments are done & records are kept.

To actively participate in the operation's ISO system.

Safety

- To comply in all respects with government legislation regarding electrical installations.

- To ensure relevant procedures are drawn up, implemented and maintained.

- To actively participate in the operations safety programme.

- To stay abreast of all relevant legislation.

- To ensure a zero-injury rate is achieved.

- To ensure the integrity of all safety devices on all machines and equipment.

- To ensure that all installation work undertaken must meet accepted standards and to comply at all times with the OSH Act.

- To maintain the appointed Championship.

To identify and report potential risks or issues concerning machines, equipment or personnel that could lead to financial or operational damage

Knowledge and Skills required

1. Have sound knowledge of AC and DC motors, inverters and drives.

2. Have sound knowledge of Siemens PLCs as well as Rockwell Allen Bradley including software and programming (STEP7, TIA portal, etc)

3. Have sound knowledge of process instrumentation such as flow meters, consistency transmitters, level transmitters.

4. Have sound automation experience.

5. Have a good understanding of a DCS system and control logic

6. Have a sound knowledge of transformers, power factor corrections and switch gear.

7. Have a good knowledge of process valves, pneumatics and associated control loops.

8. Have a good knowledge of Profibus, Profinet and Fibre.

9. Have good knowledge of integrated safety electrical safety systems

10. Be able to work outside normal hours as required.

11. Be able to work well under stress and high pressure.

12. Exhibit exceptional trouble shooting, fault finding and problem-solving skills.

13. Ability to take responsibility, ownership and accountability.

14. Ability to work independently.

To have a good knowledge of a process industry (preferably paper making and paper converting related).

Minimum Requirements

1. National Diploma Electrical Engineering/Electrician Trade Test Certification

2. 5 years or more related experience in a process industry within the maintenance department (Paper Mill Experience is key).

Ideal: Electrician Trade Test certification with programming and automation experience is key

Pay: R25 000,00 - R29 000,00 per month
