Position Summary
The Senior Finance Officer supports the effective management of iiAfrica’s financial operations by ensuring accurate financial processing, reporting, compliance, and budget monitoring. The role contributes to strong financial controls, donor compliance, and sound financial management across the organisation’s programmes and operations.
Working closely with the Finance Manager / COO and program teams, the Senior Finance Officer helps maintain robust financial systems and supports the preparation of budgets, reconciliations, management accounts, audit schedules, and donor financial reports. The role also assists in ensuring that funding received from donors and partners is managed transparently and in line with contractual and organisational requirements.
The Senior Finance Officer supports sound financial management, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls across the organisation. The role contributes to budgeting, reconciliations, statutory compliance, financial analysis, and strong financial governance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Management and Reporting
- Support the day-to-day financial operations of iiAfrica, including transaction processing, reconciliations, ledger maintenance, and financial record management.
- Prepare monthly financial schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for review.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal management and external stakeholders.
- Monitor financial transactions to ensure accuracy, completeness, and correct allocation across programmes and cost centres.
- Support cash flow tracking and expenditure monitoring to ensure sound financial oversight.
2. Grant and Donor Finance Support
- Support the financial administration of donor-funded programs, including tracking expenditure against approved budgets.
- Assist in preparing donor financial reports and expenditure statements in line with funder requirements and reporting timelines.
- Help ensure that grant expenditure is aligned with donor guidelines, approved budgets, and contractual obligations.
- Work closely with programme teams to verify financial information related to programme delivery and budget utilisation.
- Maintain organised records and supporting documents for donor-funded activities and reporting.
3. Budgeting and Forecasting Support
- Assist in the preparation and consolidation of programme and organisational budgets.
- Monitor actual expenditure against approved budgets and highlight variances or potential overspend risks.
- Support budget reviews, reforecasts, and financial planning processes.
- Provide budget tracking information to support management decision-making and programme oversight.
4. Audit, Compliance, and Internal Controls
- Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for internal and external audits.
- Support compliance with organisational finance policies, statutory requirements, and donor regulations.
- Review financial documentation to ensure completeness, accuracy, and adherence to internal controls.
- Help maintain strong financial controls and proper recordkeeping across all finance processes.
- Support the implementation of recommendations arising from audits or financial reviews.
5. Stakeholder and Internal Support
- Provide financial information and documentation to programme leads and management as required.
- Support communication with auditors, funders, and service providers on routine financial matters.
- Assist staff with finance-related queries, documentation requirements, and compliance processes.
- Contribute to strengthening finance systems, templates, and reporting processes.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or a related field.
- Professional Qualification: Progress toward a professional accounting qualification (such as ACCA, CIMA, SAICA, or equivalent) will be an advantage.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in finance, accounting, or financial administration, preferably within a non-profit, development, or donor-funded environment.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping, reconciliations, budgeting, and financial reporting
- Experience supporting donor-funded projects and financial compliance processes
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Good analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prepare accurate financial records and reports within deadlines

- Team Collaboration: Works effectively with program teams, management, auditors, and external stakeholders.
- Additional Requirements
- Experience working with donor-funded program is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with non-profit financial controls and reporting requirements in Africa will be an advantage.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Willingness to support audit processes and occasional operational travel, if required.
Pay: R30 000,00 - R36 000,00 per month
Work Location: Hybrid remote in Cape Town, Western Cape
