Job Title: Senior Financial Accountant

Our operations span multiple international markets, with legal entities in South Africa, Hong Kong, Mauritius, the United Kingdom and the United States.

As our business continues to grow, we are expanding our Finance team with the appointment of a Senior Financial Accountant to strengthen our financial reporting capability and support the continued delivery of accurate, timely and insightful financial information across the Group.

Job Purpose

The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for the integrity of the Group's financial reporting process, ensuring accurate accounting records, reconciliations, statutory compliance, and monthly reporting across multiple entities.

Working closely with the Head of Finance, this role will take ownership of the technical accounting and reporting function, providing reliable financial information that supports sound commercial decision-making and ensures compliance with applicable accounting standards and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare accurate monthly management accounts and supporting schedules across local and international entities.
  • Prepare month-end journals, accruals, prepayments and supporting working papers.
  • Perform detailed variance analysis and investigate significant movements.
  • Ensure adherence to monthly reporting deadlines and finance calendars.
  • Assist with group reporting and financial consolidations.

Balance Sheet & General Ledger Management

  • Own the balance sheet reconciliation process across all entities.
  • Investigate and resolve reconciling items timeously.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and supporting schedules.
  • Reconcile intercompany balances and transactions.

Tax & Statutory Compliance

  • Prepare VAT returns and supporting reconciliations.
  • Assist with provisional tax calculations and corporate tax submissions.
  • Prepare transfer pricing schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Support statutory reporting and ensure compliance with applicable legislation.

Fixed Assets & Inventory

  • Maintain the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.
  • Manage IFRS 16 lease accounting schedules.
  • Prepare inventory reconciliations, including goods in transit and landed cost reconciliations.
  • Ensure inventory accounting is accurate and complies with company policies.

Audit & Financial Statements

  • Prepare audit files and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual financial statements.
  • Liaise with external auditors and respond to audit queries.
  • Ensure all audit requests are resolved accurately and within agreed timelines.

Financial Analysis & Systems

  • Analyse financial information to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Utilise ERP systems, SQL reporting tools and Power BI to validate financial information and improve reporting.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, controls and reporting efficiencies.
  • Support finance system enhancements and automation initiatives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Finance, Operations, Supply Chain and Commercial teams to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Support the Head of Finance with ad hoc financial analysis and strategic projects.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting and cash flow reporting where required.

Minimum Requirements

Essential

  • Qualified CA(SA) or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
  • Completed SAICA or SAIPA articles.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Accounting (CTA, BCom Honours or equivalent).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a Financial Accountant or Senior Financial Accountant role.
  • Strong working knowledge of IFRS.
  • Experience preparing monthly management accounts.
  • Extensive balance sheet reconciliation experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Experience using SQL, Power BI or similar business intelligence and reporting tools.
  • Experience with multi-entity and multi-currency reporting.
  • Experience within a distribution, importing, manufacturing, FMCG or retail environment.

Advantageous

  • Experience with online marketplace accounting (e.g. Takealot, Amazon or similar platforms).
  • Experience with inventory accounting, landed costs, rebates and foreign currency transactions.
  • Exposure to AI tools or finance automation technologies.
  • Experience supporting group consolidations and international operations.
