Job Role:

To lead divisional financial analysis, commercial modelling, and strategic planning across Flash Group’s payments and value-added services portfolio, translating complex commercial structures into actionable insights that drive revenue growth, margin optimisation, and operational performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the division’s annual budgeting, forecasting, and three-year strategic planning process in collaboration with divisional management, continuously monitoring performance against targets and reforecasting as required.
  • Determine, negotiate, and manage downstream commercial structures and settlement terms for partners
  • Evaluate and structure upstream commercial terms for new product and service acquisitions.
  • Conduct granular commercial agreement modelling, breaking down complex multi-party arrangements into component-level economics to analyse and optimise terms, margins, and profitability.
  • Prepare and present investment cases, product viability assessments, and cost-benefit analyses to the Director and Executive Team, supporting strategic decision-making on new initiatives and partnerships.
  • Build and maintain performance dashboards and KPI frameworks, ensuring accuracy and integrity of divisional data, and translating analytical insights into actionable recommendations for management.
  • Manage and develop a team of financial analysts, providing coaching, performance oversight, and career development support to build analytical capability within the division.
  • Collaborate with product, operations, and technology stakeholders to assess product feasibility, design system-based financial controls, and ensure commercial outcomes are reflected accurately in transaction flows.
  • Identify and drive opportunities for efficiency improvements and bottom-line enhancement across the division, proactively seeking commercial optimisation levers.
  • Oversee divisional risk management in collaboration with the Group risk function, including identification, assessment, and mitigation of financial and operational risks.

Requirements:

  • CA(SA) or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
  • Bachelor of Accounting Honours degree (or equivalent).
  • 7+ years post-articles experience in financial analysis, commercial finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience managing or mentoring junior analysts.
  • Demonstrable experience in payments, fintech, or digital services industries (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of databases for large-scale data analysis.
  • Experience with Power BI or equivalent data visualisation tools (preferred).

Required Knowledge / Technical Skills:

  • Advanced financial modelling and scenario analysis (Required)
  • Expert-level Excel skills
  • Commercial agreement structuring and margin/unit economics analysis (Required)
  • Proficiency in SQL for querying large transactional datasets (Required)
  • Understanding of payments infrastructure: transaction flows, settlement, clearing, and reconciliation (Required)
  • Power BI or equivalent data visualisation and dashboarding tools (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of South African payments ecosystem including aggregation, bill payments, airtime distribution, and voucher platforms (Preferred)

  • Attention to Detail: Maintains accuracy and rigour across financial models, dashboards, and reporting, ensuring data integrity underpins all decision-making.
  • Strategic Orientation: Connects day-to-day financial analysis to broader divisional and company strategy, proactively identifying growth levers and efficiency gains.
  • Adaptability: Thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment where product portfolios, partner relationships, and commercial structures change frequently.
  • People Leadership: Coaches and develops junior analysts, fostering accountability, technical growth, and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Problem Solving: Approaches challenges with a solutions-oriented mindset, balancing speed and thoroughness to deliver actionable outcomes under pressure.
