Role Purpose The candidate will be responsible to develop, oversee and administer the underwriting function as well as market the product for the accident and health class of business in Guardrisk General Insurance (GGI) as well as ensuring adherence to professional standards of service and compliance with all legislative and licensing requirements.
*Requirements**Qualfication: Matric
- Minimum 120 FAIS Credits (NQF Level 5)
- Bachelor’s Degree or Higher + Recognised Insurance qualification
- RE5 and RE1
Experience:
- 10-15 years accident and health underwriting experience in an Insurance company or UMA
- Specific Underwriting and marketing experience in accident and health class of business
- Extensive broker relationships with large corporate and commercial broking houses critical – exposure to regional and independent brokers an advantage
- Exposure to and knowledge of broker platforms
- Ability to understand implications of reinsurance arrangements for underwriting decisions
*Duties & Responsibilities**Main Functions and Outputs: Develop and manage underwriting and marketing function for Accident and Health division.
- Policy issuing, interpretation and liaison with GGI claims function.
- Assisting in development of new products and the revision of existing products.
- Reviewing and drafting new policy wordings as required in conjunction with Guardrisk underwriting department.
- Ensuring compliance with all legislative requirements including SASRIA, in conjunction with the Guardisk underwriting department.
- Involvement in any special projects identified by GGI senior management including but not limited to the input for development and enhancement of underwriting, administration and claims systems.
- Reconciling the premium and claims reports in conjunction with Guardrisk finance department.
- Escalate problems or complaints where necessary.
- Ensure competitive pricing structure across portfolio while maintaining acceptable loss ratios.
- Continually improve and maintain high service levels.
Financial:
- Prepare and recommend People budget required for the financial year to enable the execution of all projects and initiatives
- Liaison with- and reporting to Guardrisk reinsurance department where required.
- Identify solutions to enhance cost effectiveness and increase operational efficiency.
People Management:
- Monitoring the performance of the underwriting function and relates activities on a continuing basis, taking appropriate steps to improve its effectiveness through performance contracting and reviews.
