Senior Professional Nurse

The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to collect, process and distribute blood and blood products throughout the Western Cape.

We are seeking an experienced and highly competent Senior Professional Nurse to support the Clinic Co-Ordinator in the effective management and coordination of blood donation clinics.

Donor Division, (Paterson Grade C3)

Role purpose:

The successful candidate will play a key role in clinic operations, staff supervision, donor assessment, quality management and customer service, while ensuring that all clinical and administrative activities comply with organisational policies and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily clinic operations and ensure efficient staffing and rostering.
• Supervise, support and guide clinic nursing staff, including acting for the Clinic Co-Ordinator when required.
• Assess and screen donors, including medical history, vital signs, eligibility, deferrals and venepuncture.
• Provide clinical support and guidance during donor reactions and medical emergencies.
• Handle donor and staff queries, complaints and customer service matters professionally and confidentially.
• Liaise with relevant teams on clinic scheduling, staffing, venues and logistics.
• Maintain compliance with clinical, quality, safety and organisational standards.
• Support staff competency assessments and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Maintain accurate administrative and time-and-attendance processes.

Minimum requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Nursing.
• Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Minimum 3 years' donor clinic experience.
• Extensive knowledge of medical conditions and their implications for blood donation.
• Sound knowledge of medications, their uses, side effects and contra-indications.
• Proven experience in staff supervision and management would be advantageous
• Excellent client/customer service skills.
• Strong communication, organisational and administrative abilities.
