Dijkstrack is looking for an exceptional Senior Python Developer with strong Machine Learning experience to join one of our international clients. This is a hands-on engineering role where Python development is the primary focus, while leveraging Machine Learning to build intelligent, scalable products used by millions of users worldwide.

You'll work alongside world-class engineers to develop high-performance backend systems, build robust data pipelines, and implement machine learning models that power personalised experiences and data-driven decision making.

The Role

As a Senior Python Developer, you'll be responsible for designing, building and maintaining scalable backend services while contributing to the development and deployment of production-ready Machine Learning solutions.

You'll work across the full software development lifecycle—from architecture and development through to deployment, optimisation and monitoring—ensuring applications remain secure, reliable and highly performant.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Design and develop scalable backend applications using Python.
  • Build clean, maintainable and well-tested code following engineering best practices.
  • Develop APIs and microservices powering enterprise applications.
  • Build and optimise data pipelines for Machine Learning workflows.
  • Develop, train and deploy Machine Learning models into production.
  • Work closely with Data Scientists and Product teams to translate business problems into technical solutions.
  • Optimise systems for performance, scalability and reliability.
  • Participate in architectural decisions and mentor other developers.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native deployments.

What We're Looking For

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years commercial Python development experience.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles and design patterns.
  • Experience building REST APIs and distributed backend systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of SQL and working with large datasets.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Strong Git and CI/CD experience.

Machine Learning Experience

We're looking for someone who has practical experience working with Machine Learning in production environments, including:

  • Python ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow or Scikit-learn.
  • Building and deploying Machine Learning models.
  • Developing data pipelines for model training and inference.
  • Experience with recommendation systems or predictive modelling is highly advantageous.
  • Understanding of collaborative filtering, content-based recommendation or ranking models is a bonus.
  • Experience with Kubeflow or similar MLOps tooling is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics or another relevant technical discipline.

Requirements

  • Must be currently based in South Africa.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Comfortable working remotely with international teams.
  • Passion for solving complex technical problems.
