Job description
The main objective of the position is to ensure the independent planning, organising, leading and controlling of the full audit cycles. This includes developing schedules, mentoring auditors and driving CAPA management. The role also ensures compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (South Africa) by fulfilling the legal appointment as the 16.2 Representative. Additionally, the incumbent supports the Quality & Safety Manager, acting as deputy for the Quality & Safety Manager as second in charge in their absence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare the annual audit schedule for approval of the Quality and Safety Manager.
- Manage, lead and co-ordinate internal, external and supplier audits in accordance with the prepared Annual Audit Schedule, ensuring revisions are recorded.
- Support customer audits and desktop audits including cycle of feedback.
- Create and amend audit checklists in accordance with the relevant regulatory requirements and company procedures.
- Support product audits as required.
- Assist the Quality and Safety Manager with National Aviation Authority (NAA) audits.
- Support and contribute to promotion activities under the Quality and Safety Management Systems.
- Mentor junior staff where applicable.
- Drive CAPA management.
- Update the Q-Pulse System and One-drive folder with all corresponding administration.
- Act as the 16.2 appointee under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (South Africa), ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation.
- Promote Occupational Health and Safety (OHSE) awareness throughout the organization.
- Implement and oversee OHSE policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
- Coordinate and lead OHSE initiatives to improve workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
- Update the Q-Pulse System and One-drive folder with all corresponding administration relevant to the functions described.
- Plan, organise, lead and control the functioning of the Quality and Safety Departments.
- Represent the Quality and Safety function at management and safety meetings.
- Review and authorise audit reports, corrective action requests, and compliance documentation on behalf of the Manager.
- Approve authorisations and quality notices in line with delegation of authority.
- Authorise, within delegation limits, Quality-related procedures, amendments, and quality reports.
- Provide recommendations to the Quality & Safety Manager regarding continued compliance, approvals, or potential risks.
- Assume the responsibilities of the Quality and Safety Manager in their absence.
- Assist with ad-hoc duties as assigned by the relevant manager.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Grade 12
- Certifications within the Quality Management and Safety Management regulatory framework or Diploma or degree in Aviation Quality Assurance, Safety Management, or Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
- Lead Auditor certification (ISO 9001 or aviation-specific auditing qualification).
- OHSE certification (SHE Rep / SAMTRAC / NEBOSH or equivalent).
- Further training in aviation regulations, risk management, and compliance is an advantage.
- 5+ years’ experience in aviation quality assurance, auditing, and compliance.
- Experience in supplier audits, NAA audits, and customer audits.
- Experience in Occupational Health and Safety Management.
- Familiarity with technical publications and library management in an aviation environment is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of aviation regulations (e.g., Part 145, Part 140, and international aviation standards).
- Experience conducting internal and external audits.
- Understanding of OHSE legal requirements and best practices.
- Ability to interpret and apply technical documentation and regulations.
- Strong Microsoft Office proficiency, including Excel (data analysis, pivot tables, reporting), Word (document preparation, formatting, compliance documentation), Outlook (email coordination, scheduling), and PowerPoint (presentations, training material preparation).
- Experience with OneDrive and SharePoint for document control, file management, and collaborative record-keeping.
