To develop, optimise, implement, and maintain acquisition credit risk models and scorecards that accurately predict risk at the point of application, using both traditional statistical techniques and advanced analytical methodologies to support effective credit decisioning.Job Responsibilities
- Take ownership of acquisition credit risk models for unsecured lending products, including personal loans, credit cards, and overdrafts.
- Develop, enhance, implement, monitor, and maintain application scorecards and credit risk models used at the point of customer acquisition.
- Build and validate credit risk models using statistical and machine learning techniques, including logistic regression and other advanced modelling methodologies.
- Extract, manipulate, and analyse large datasets using SQL, SAS, and other analytical tools to support model development and business decision-making.
- Conduct model performance monitoring, back-testing, recalibration, and ongoing model maintenance to ensure predictive power and regulatory compliance.
- Investigate and challenge existing methodologies by identifying opportunities to improve model performance through innovative analytical techniques and machine learning approaches.
- Collaborate with business, risk, data, and technology stakeholders to implement and optimise credit risk models and strategies.
- Present analytical findings, model results, and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Perform peer reviews of model developments and contribute to establishing best-practice modelling standards across the team.
- Ensure model governance requirements are met through comprehensive documentation, testing, validation, and formal approval processes.
- Contribute to the development and automation of analytical processes to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and support to junior quantitative analysts where applicable.
- Remain abreast of industry trends, emerging modelling techniques, and developments in credit risk analytics to drive continuous improvement.
- Support the achievement of business objectives by delivering robust and sustainable credit risk solutions aligned with risk appetite and strategic goals.
- Foster a collaborative team culture through knowledge sharing, code reviews, and active participation in cross-functional initiatives. Essential Qualifications - NQF Level
- Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees
- Professional Qualifications/Honour’s Degree Preferred Qualification
- Honours Degree in a quantitative or technical discipline, like Computer Science, Engineering (Industrial, Electrical, Computer), Mathematics/Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or Computational/Theoretical Physics, and CFA/ FRM/CQF. Minimum Experience Level
- Minimum 3 years' experience in credit risk model development, scorecard development, or quantitative analytics.
- Proven experience in credit risk scorecard and predictive model development.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and/or SAS for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis.
- Experience building and deploying predictive risk models, including logistic regression models. Technical / Professional Knowledge
