About You
You're the kind of engineer who notices a dropped frame before anyone else does and can't resist shaving a few milliseconds off app performance. React Native is your home turf, but you're just as comfortable diving into Swift, Kotlin, CI/CD pipelines, or untangling a tricky API integration. You care as much about clean architecture as you do about pixel-perfect UI, and you've probably muttered, "There's definitely a better way to automate this." You enjoy mentoring others, love solving complex problems, and get a little too excited when an app store release goes off without a hitch. Most importantly, you build apps that people genuinely enjoy using, and you never settle for "it works" when it could be exceptional.
Responsibilities:
Feature Development & Delivery
- Design and build high-quality features across React Native, iOS (Swift/SwiftUI), and Android (Kotlin).
- Take ownership of features end-to-end — from technical design through to production release.
- Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code that meets OneDayOnly's engineering standards.
- Participate in code reviews, providing constructive and thorough feedback to peers.
Performance & Optimisation
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across app startup, rendering, and network layers.
- Proactively monitor app health metrics and drive continuous performance improvements.
- Champion best practices for memory management, battery efficiency, and smooth UI rendering.
CI/CD & Mobile DevOps
- Maintain and improve mobile CI/CD pipelines to ensure fast, reliable, and automated releases.
- Manage app store submissions (Apple App Store & Google Play) and release processes.
- Contribute to mobile DevOps tooling and automate repetitive operational tasks.
API Integration & Backend Collaboration
- Design and implement robust API integrations with OneDayOnly's backend services.
- Collaborate with backend engineers to define and evolve mobile-facing APIs.
- Handle complex data flows, caching strategies, and offline-first considerations.
UI/UX Implementation & Design Systems
- Implement pixel-perfect UI from design specifications with high fidelity.
- Contribute to and maintain the mobile design system and shared component library.
- Partner with our UX Designer to ensure designs are both feasible and delightful to use.
Mentorship & Team Growth
- Mentor junior and mid-level mobile developers through code reviews and pair programming.
- Share knowledge with the broader engineering team through presentations and documentation.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
Experience and Qualifications:
- 3–5+ years of professional mobile development experience.
- Strong proficiency in React Native — you've shipped production apps with it.
- Solid native mobile experience in Swift/SwiftUI (iOS) and/or Kotlin (Android).
- Proven track record of building and shipping consumer-facing mobile applications.
- Deep understanding of mobile performance optimisation and best practices.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines for mobile (e.g. Bitrise, Fastlane, GitHub Actions).
- Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and mobile networking patterns.
- Experience implementing designs from Figma or similar design tools with high accuracy.
- Familiarity with App Store and Google Play release processes.
- Experience with e-commerce or high-traffic consumer apps.
- Contributions to open-source mobile projects.
- Experience with GraphQL, WebSockets, or push notification infrastructure.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) in mobile contexts.
Values
- Challenge Accepted: We actively seek ownership, embrace complexity, and hold ourselves accountable for delivering high-quality, reliable code.
- Solve Smart: We find the simplest, most effective path to a solution. We use data to inform our decisions, challenge assumptions, and build for the long-term.
- Character Counts: We act with integrity in all that we do. We communicate with transparency, give and receive feedback constructively, and take accountability for our mistakes and our successes.
- Customer Obsessed: We build with empathy for our users. We strive to understand their needs and challenges, making them the central focus of every feature we ship and every line of code we write.
- Seriously Unserious: We take our work seriously, but not ourselves. We bring energy and humor to our collaborations, celebrate our successes together, and support each other through challenges.
