6-8 years’ experience in investment management or related industry. FAIS RE 5 exam passed.

Purpose of Job

  • Responsible for implementing and monitoring trades and activities related to changes to client portfolios.
  • Work closely with the Portfolio Management Team, Consulting, the Invest Administration Team and other stakeholders involved in effecting changes to client portfolios.
  • Accountable for reviewing portfolios and addressing queries related to changes and performance of funds.
  • 2IC responsibilities, including managing the team mailbox, the trade plan roster, derivatives expiries, capital calls and distributions, and change management
  • Guide and support various teams as an escalation point for technical knowledge and complex queries.

  • Deep understanding of portfolio asset allocations, underlying manager allocations, and how these are affected by market movements.
  • Ability to apply systems thinking to processes, while taking ownership of outcomes.
  • Ability to monitor and manage a busy trade roster and mailbox, with strong attention to outstanding items and deadlines.

Monthly/Daily Tasks

  • Accurately execute trade instructions to effect changes to client portfolios as instructed by clients and the Portfolio Management Team, including:
    • Booking and confirming trades with foreign exchange agents.
    • Preparing and submitting derivative trading instructions to derivatives agents and brokers and following up for trade confirmations.
    • Instruct and monitor trading activity on CIS Funds and UCITS Funds.
  • Monitor listed and OTC derivative expiries and rolls, ensuring timely action is taken ahead of each expiry date.
  • Perform pre-trade analysis for larger flows and provide instructions to be carried out by the Administration Team.
  • Perform ongoing trade monitoring to ensure settlements and next steps in trade plans are actioned without delay and with accuracy.
  • Perform post-trade analysis and checks on trade plans.
  • Work closely with the Administration Team to guide them on instructions required for portfolio changes such as rebalances, adding or removing managers, benchmark changes and drawdowns.
  • Provide feedback on the completion of executed trades to the Portfolio Management Team and Investment Consultants.
  • Review portfolios regularly to ensure that they are aligned to their target positions. Attend review meetings to address any queries related to changes on the portfolios.
  • Prepare and/or review reporting on trade and rebalancing activities including:
    • Bi-weekly portfolio review meetings with Portfolio Management Team
      • Monthly portfolio review meetings with Investment Consultants
      • Monthly trade reports
      • Quarterly trade reports
  • Review daily derivatives exposures exception reports.
  • Monitor and plan for capital calls and distributions ensuring that capital calls are met by the due date in a manner consistent with standing instructions (if applicable) and strategic intent of the portfolio.
  • Assist in preparing proposals, client report-backs and other ad hoc queries / reports.
  • Attend external meetings, when required and appropriate.
  • Assist the Team Leader in managing the team mailbox, ensuring that queries are acknowledged and resolved, and instructions are logged and assigned accordingly.
  • Monitor and manage the trade roster to ensure all open items are tracked, actioned and closed out within agreed timeframes.
  • Initiate, drive and support internal improvement initiatives within the Invest department to ensure continuous business improvement.
  • Maintain standard operating procedure documents for the Trade and Rebalancing function.
  • Assist in training and upskilling junior team members.
  • Act as a point of backup for the Team Leader in their absence, including day-to-day oversight of the mailbox and trade roster.
  • Perform user acceptance testing of enhancements and change requests on systems and applications used by the team as required.
  • As part of 2IC development, prepare and approve asset allocation and trade instructions, deputising for the Team Leader when required.
  • Work closely with the Team Leader on ad hoc improvement and automation projects.
