Job Description
Job Purpose:
Responsible to execute and support the inspections, servicing, repairs, modernizations and installation on cranes and related components and equipment for all crane brands. Also ensuring that related inspections; load testing; etc. comply to the statutory/legal requirements.
Main Responsibilities:
- Compile and maintain safety files as required as per regulatory, compliance and customer requirements
- Responsible for performing preventative maintenance and repairs on electric overhead travelling cranes
- Perform thorough inspections, breakdowns and repairs in a timely manner and in accordance with the service contracts or other requirements
- Carry out fault finding to ensure that cranes are thoroughly assessed in accordance with stipulated procedures, isolate the problem and take or recommend action to minimise downtime
- Ensure that faults and problems requiring repairs are accurately identified during the inspection
- Trouble- shooting equipment malfunctions
- Generating sales leads during service call
- Completing appropriate documentation
- Make recommendations on maintenance required and/or modifications to improve the cranes, and equipment
- Gathers customer input on matters ranging from product design, operation, maintenance, warranty performance, and safety
- Ensure that work areas are properly assessed and work is performed in accordance with accepted safety procedures
- Adhere to safety procedures both on the company and customer premises wherever work is conducted
- Responsible for Safety and Visit reviews
- Consulting with customers on repair and safety related issues
- Maintain general housekeeping
- Ensure accurate and timely administration of relevant documentation such as service or inspection reports, timesheets, and orders. Provide proper electronic documentation utilizing the established company digital tools required for each service, obtaining the customer’s signature and acceptance
- Communicates information on equipment problems or potential enhancements timeously to the relevant persons
- May provide guidance to assistant service technician on assigned tasks/ongoing responsibilities requiring collaboration
- To be fully aware of and comply with current responsibilities and requirements of the relevant OHS Acts, mine health and safety act, Regulations and applicable Health and Safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe workplace
- Report all hazards, incidents and injuries in accordance with legislation and company reporting procedures
- Participate in programs and assessments to improve health and safety in the workplace.
- Execute all functions in line with the applicable delegation of authority
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Perform inspections, services, repairs, load testing and or do fault finding according to service contracts or other requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned, ensure that cranes are thoroughly assessed in accordance with stipulated procedures and service products
- When the machinery or equipment is non-compliant, isolate the problem and or take recommend action to minimise downtime
- Prepare comprehensive and accurate inspection report in accordance with company report templates ensure that it is signed by customers and other responsible person
- Ensure that faults and problems requiring repairs are accurately identified during the inspection
- Communicate compliance and non-compliance of lifting machinery to stakeholders
- Compile and maintain inspection schedules and registers
- Explain and apply engineering skills in inspecting lifting machines
- To be fully aware of and comply with current responsibilities and requirements of the relevant OHS Acts, mine health and safety act, regulations and applicable Health and Safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe workplace
- Adhere to safety procedures both on the company and customer premises wherever work is conducted
- Ensure that work areas are properly assessed and work is performed in accordance with accepted safety procedures
- POWRA is completed before commencement of any job ensuring a safe work environment
- Conduct the essential operations associated with efficient and safe lifting machinery
- Service products are identified, activities are identified and accessed in accordance with workplace requirements
- Working according to company policies and procedures
- Make recommendations on maintenance required and/or modifications to improve the machinery and equipment
- Communicates information on equipment problems or potential enhancements timeously to the relevant persons
- Gathers customer input on matters ranging from product design, operation, maintenance, warranty performance and safety
- Assisting colleagues in upskilling programs/ sharing their knowledge and experience including becoming Lifting Machinery Inspector (LMI) and Lifting Tackle Inspector (LTI)
- Regularly participates in trainings or forums ensuring awareness of any changes in legislation
- Report all hazards, incidents and injuries in accordance with legislation and company reporting procedures
- Maintain general housekeeping

Qualifications
Qualification/Education:
- Grade 12 (NQF level 4) OR Trade certificate where specified
- Lifting Machinery Inspection Accreditation
- Valid driver’s license
- Crane operators license
- First aid certification (Level 1)
Skills & Knowledge:
- 5 years’ work experience
- Advanced understanding of Occupational Health & Safety act of 1993 and where required mine health and safety act
- Advanced understanding of Driven Machinery Regulation (DMR)18
- Good understanding of ISO 9001: 18001: 24001 and 45001
- Safe working practices
- Basic knowledge of electrical theory
- Basic knowledge of hydraulic theory
- Knowledge of lifting tackle and rigging
- Selecting, using and caring for engineering measuring equipment
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics and understand technical data
- Use hand tools and trade type tools
- Experience on overhead cranes and related lifting attachments
- Must be able to work at elevated areas and at heights
- Must be able to travel locally and outside SA for operational requirements
- Proficiency with MS Office applications e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
