PG Bison is seeking a dedicated SHEQ Officer to lead the development and implementation of robust safety, health, environment, and quality management systems within our manufacturing operations. This mid-level role requires expertise in occupational health and safety legislation, environmental compliance, risk management, and quality assurance processes. The successful candidate will drive continuous improvement initiatives, enforce regulatory compliance, and foster a proactive safety culture to minimize operational risks and enhance employee wellbeing. - Bachelor's degree or diploma in Safety Management, Environmental Management, Risk Management, Quality Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Professional certification in SHEQ, Risk Management, or related fields such as SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or ISO 45001/14001/9001 is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 5 to 8 years' proven experience in safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ), risk management, compliance, or a related management function.
- Demonstrable expertise in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks within complex operational environments.
- Proven track record in leading SHEQ audits, conducting inspections, managing investigations, and implementing corrective actions effectively.
- Extensive experience navigating legal and regulatory compliance requirements, with a background in interaction with external authorities and auditors.
- Strong skills in incident and accident investigation, including thorough reporting and follow-up actions.
- Hands-on experience overseeing safety and risk protocols in construction, project management, shutdowns, and site closure activities.
- Competence in managing security measures, loss control initiatives, and business continuity planning.
- Experience in budgeting, performance reporting, and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) related to SHEQ and risk functions.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee SHEQ, risk management, legal compliance, and loss control activities to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards, enforce corrective actions, and promote continuous improvement.
- Lead investigations into incidents and accidents, determining root causes and implementing effective preventive measures to mitigate future risks.
- Coordinate and manage construction projects, shutdowns, and site closure processes, ensuring adherence to safety and environmental standards.
- Develop, maintain, and report on SHEQ performance indicators, budgets, and compliance documentation to support management decision-making.
- Facilitate SHE training programs, inductions, and toolbox talks to enhance employee competency and foster a strong safety culture.
- Collaborate with contractors and internal stakeholders to conduct safety inspections, coordinate safety meetings, and ensure adherence to company policies.
- Manage site security functions and personnel to safeguard assets and maintain a secure working environment.
- Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning to ensure operational resilience in emergency situations.
- Provide expert advice and support on SHEQ and risk management matters to management and other key stakeholders.
