Job description
Purpose Of The Job To implement and maintain an Occupational Hygiene programme in order to ensure compliance of provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations.
SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY
- Identify and assess level of issue-based risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
- Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
- Manage SHEQ compliance within the Process through effective use of the Toolbox
- Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status.
People
- Ensure an enabling climate/culture
- Manage labour stability by minimising labour turnover
- Labour complement in line with budget
- Achieve HDSA/ Female targets for the Section
- Manage performance against set targets and competencies
- Ensure IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan
- Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly)
- Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels
- Conduct recruitment interviews
- Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
- Chair disciplinary hearings when required.
Customers
- Ensure Customer Satisfaction.
Business Processes
- Identify Health & Hygiene requirements and determine the impact they may have on the site
- Ensure compliance to Health and Hygiene requirements as per relevant legislative requirements
- Ensure compliance to Safety requirements as per relevant legislative requirements
- Investigate and report on Health and Hygiene Requirements as per relevant legislative requirements
- Monitor behaviour in line with expectations
- Develop learning interventions to support implementation of Health & Hygiene
- Management System requirements and facilitate Health & Hygiene training courses
- Conduct internal Health & Hygiene Audits and monitor and report closure on Audit findings
- Report on the Performance of Site Health & Hygiene Management Systems and make recommendations on findings
- Investigate Health & Hygiene Significant Incidents and participate in actual level 2 and 3 and potential level 4 Significant Incident Investigations
- Facilitate the identification and assessment of Health & Hygiene Risks and update the risk registers
- Report Health & Hygiene statistics and information
- Identify SHEQ requirements and determine the impact they may have on the site
- Monitor SHEQ behaviour in line with expectations
- Develop learning interventions to support implementation of SHEQ Management System requirements and facilitate Safety training courses
- Conduct internal SHEQ Audits and monitor and report closure on Audit findings
- Report on the Performance of Site SHEQ Management Systems and make recommendations on findings
- Investigate Significant Incidents
- Facilitate the identification and assessment of SHEQ Risks and update the risk register
- Report SHEQ statistics and information
- Participate in 5S system for site
- Coordinate, investigate, standardise and optimise PPE requirements, quality and investigations
- Approve and authorise workflow
- Perform standby
- Work overtime as and when required.

- Identify and implement continuous Improvement through Operational Excellence.
Minimum Qualifications And Experience
- Degree or National Diploma in Safety or Quality Management
- 4 years relevant experience (internal), 6 years relevant experience (external).
Additional Qualifications
- Driver’s License.

- Demonstrate an understanding of successful implementation and maintenance of a Safety & Health Programme
