Position: Sigmanest Nester / Junior Nester

Location: Rosslyn, Pretoria

Salary: R 10,000 - R15,000 per month

About the Position

We are looking for a Sigmanest Nester / Junior Nester to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and optimizing cutting nests, assisting with quotations, managing plate/material utilization and ensuring that all relevant information is accurately captured for production and invoicing.

The ideal candidate must have good practical knowledge of Sigmanest and understand the relationship between nesting, material usage, production requirements and costing.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and optimist CNC laser and/or plasma cutting nests using Sigmanest.
• Create accurate nests to maximize material utilization and minimize scrap.
• Review drawings and cutting files to ensure components are correctly nested and suitable for production.
• Prepare and assist with customer quotations, including calculating material requirements, cutting quantities and estimated material usage.
• Calculate and monitor material requirements for upcoming jobs.
• Manage and maintain plate/material control, including monitoring available stock, material sizes, grades and thicknesses.
• Allocate existing plate to jobs where possible to reduce unnecessary material purchases and minimize scrap.
• Identify material shortages and communicate requirements to the relevant personnel before production is affected.
• Ensure nests are prepared and released to production according to job priorities and required deadlines.
• Maintain accurate records of material usage, remnants and scrap.
• Assist with tracking job progress and ensuring that production has the correct cutting information.
• Prepare and process tax invoices and ensure that relevant job information and quantities are accurately captured.
• Check completed jobs against quotations and production information before invoicing.
• Liaise with production, sales and administration to resolve discrepancies or missing information.
• Maintain accurate electronic records of nests, jobs, material usage and related documentation.
• Assist with general production planning and administration when required.

Minimum Requirements

• Previous experience working with Sigmanest is essential.
• Practical understanding of CNC cutting and nesting processes.
• Experience with laser cutting, plasma cutting or flame cutting will be advantageous.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
• Good understanding of plate sizes, material grades, thicknesses and material utilization.
• Basic understanding of quotations, costing and material calculations.
• Computer literate with good Excel skills.
• Good attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet production deadlines.
• Good communication and organizational skills.

Advantageous

• Experience in a steel fabrication or engineering environment
• Experience with CNC laser/plasma cutting
• Experience with Pastel or similar accounting/ERP software
• Experience with tax invoicing
• Previous experience in estimating or production planning

Important

This is a hands-on production support role. The successful candidate needs to understand that good nesting is not simply about fitting as many parts as possible onto a plate. The objective is to balance material utilization, scrap, production requirements, plate availability and job priorities.

A strong understanding of Sigmanest and the ability to work accurately and efficiently will be essential to the success of this position.
