Site Managers

Purpose of the Role:

The Site Manager is accountable for the overall leadership, operational performance and governance of the Dudfield operation, integrating Packing, Clinker, Shunting, Maintenance and Site Administration to achieve production, safety, customer, financial and people objectives while ensuring legislative compliance and continuous improvement.

Key Accountabilities:

Site Leadership & Operational Management

• Lead the overall Dudfield operation and coordinate activities across all operational departments.
• Develop and implement annual, quarterly and monthly operational plans aligned to business objectives.
• Monitor operational performance against agreed KPIs and implement corrective action where required.
• Optimize the allocation of labour, equipment and operational resources.
• Lead daily operational planning and performance review meetings.
• Identify and mitigate operational risks and ensure business continuity plans are maintained.
• Develop leadership capability through coaching and mentoring of the Assistant Site Manager and Supervisors.

Production & Operational Efficiency

• Deliver approved daily, weekly and monthly production, throughput, productivity and service delivery targets.
• Coordinate Packing, Clinker and Shunting activities to maximize throughput and minimize delays.
• Identify production bottlenecks and drive corrective and preventative actions.
• Monitor equipment availability and coordinate with Maintenance to minimize downtime.
• Ensure operations are conducted in accordance with approved SOPs and customer requirements.
• Drive improvements in productivity, resource utilization and operational efficiency.

SHEQ, Compliance & Risk

• Lead and promote a proactive safety culture across the Dudfield operation.
• Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, company policies and client safety requirements.
• Oversee risk assessments, workplace inspections, incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Ensure contractor compliance and maintain required environmental, quality and safety standards.
• Support internal and external audits and ensure findings are closed within agreed timeframes.
• Maintain statutory licenses, permits and other compliance requirements.

Financial & Asset Management

• Manage the site’s operational budget and monitor expenditure against approved targets.
• Investigate budget variances and drive effective cost control.
• Control overtime, labour costs, fuel, consumables and other operational expenditure.
• Optimize the utilization and availability of plant, equipment and other company assets.
• Ensure preventative maintenance programmes support maximum equipment availability.
• Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities.

People Leadership & Culture

• Lead, coach and develop the Assistant Site Manager, Supervisors and operational teams.
• Establish clear performance expectations and accountability.
• Manage performance, development and employee relations in accordance with company requirements and legislation.
• Identify training and development needs and support Individual Development Plans.
• Support workforce planning, recruitment and succession planning.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, accountable and safety-focused working environment.

Customer & Stakeholder Management

• Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, contractors and key stakeholders.
• Ensure operational delivery meets contractual requirements and agreed SLAs.
• Attend customer meetings and operational review sessions.
• Address customer concerns and complaints promptly and drive appropriate corrective action.
• Communicate operational performance, delays and improvement initiatives effectively.

Reporting & Continuous Improvement

• Ensure accurate and timely daily, weekly and monthly operational reporting.
• Analyse production, SHEQ, financial and people performance data to identify trends and risks.
• Use operational dashboards and business intelligence to support data-driven decision-making.
• Identify inefficiencies and lead root-cause analysis and improvement initiatives.
• Drive measurable improvements in productivity, safety, quality, customer service and cost efficiency.
• Promote innovation and the adoption of improved technologies, systems and work practices.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

• Grade 12 – Essential
• Diploma or Degree in Operations Management, Rail Operations, Engineering, Logistics or Supply Chain – Essential
• Rail operational training or certification – Advantageous
• Valid driver’s licence

Experience

• 5–8 years’ experience in operational management, including multi-disciplinary operations – Essential
• Experience in an operational environment involving rail, packing and/or clinker operations will be highly relevant.
• Experience leading teams and managing operational resources.
• Proven experience in operational planning, performance management and KPI delivery.
