Social Performance, Human Rights & Security Manager Department Copper DepartmentLocation Johannesburg, South Africa; Baar, Switzerland; or Santiago, ChileReporting Line Global Head of HSEC & Human Rights – CopperDirect Reports 2 Role Purpose The Social Performance, Human Rights & Security Manager plays a critical role in enabling business success across Glencore's Copper operations through the effective management of social, human rights, security, and reputational risks and opportunities. The role provides strategic leadership, technical expertise, governance oversight, and operational support to regional and asset teams, ensuring that social performance, human rights, and security considerations are effectively integrated into business planning, project development, and operational decision-making. Key Responsibilities****Strategic Counsel, Partnership & Support Provide strategic guidance and technical support to Copper operations across social performance, human rights, and security disciplines. Partner with regional and asset leadership teams to identify, manage, and mitigate social and reputational risks. Support the development and implementation of strategies related to: Social risk and reputation management Security and human rights Community consultation and stakeholder engagement First Nations and Indigenous Peoples engagement Cultural heritage management Social investment and sustainable development Socio-economic development initiatives Land acquisition and resettlement Social Risk Management Ensure appropriate controls and mitigation measures are in place to effectively manage social risks across the Copper portfolio. Assess the adequacy of risk controls based on risk severity, operational complexity, and potential business impact. Monitor emerging social and stakeholder-related risks and support the development of proactive management strategies. Security & Human Rights Provide strategic oversight of security risk management across Copper operations. Ensure security strategies, standards, and controls are aligned with Glencore's human rights commitments and social performance objectives. Support implementation of security programs that protect people, assets, operations, and reputation while remaining proportionate to the operating context and risk environment. Promote alignment with international human rights standards and responsible security practices. Social Performance Planning & Execution Support the development and implementation of effective social performance plans across regional and asset operations. Ensure social performance initiatives provide a coordinated and holistic approach to managing key social and reputational risks. Promote integration across related functions, including: Human Rights Security Stakeholder Engagement Social Investment Socio-economic Development Environmental Management Corporate Affairs and Communications Social Investment & Community Impact Support the development and governance of social investment strategies across the Copper portfolio. Ensure investments contribute to sustainable and measurable benefits for local communities. Monitor and evaluate the long-term social and economic impact of community investment programs. Promote approaches that strengthen community resilience, prosperity, and local development outcomes. Project Development & Stage-Gate Support Ensure social considerations and long-term community impacts are effectively incorporated into project design and development activities. Collaborate with project, environmental, and corporate affairs teams to review Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs). Participate in project stage-gate reviews and provide expert input on social performance, human rights, security, and stakeholder considerations. Support project teams in identifying and mitigating social risks throughout the project lifecycle. Governance, Assurance & Continuous Improvement Lead monitoring and due diligence activities relating to the implementation of Glencore's Social Performance and Human Rights policies, standards, and governance requirements across the Copper portfolio. Assess compliance, identify improvement opportunities, and support corrective action plans. Provide assurance and performance reporting to Copper and Group leadership. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen social performance, human rights, and security outcomes across operations and projects. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Human Rights, International Development, Law, Sustainability, Environmental Management, Political Science, or a related discipline. Postgraduate qualification in Sustainability, Human Rights, Community Development, Public Policy, Security Studies, or a related field preferred. Significant experience in social performance, human rights, stakeholder engagement, sustainability, security, or related disciplines within the mining, natural resources, infrastructure, or industrial sectors. Demonstrated experience advising senior leaders on complex social, stakeholder, security, and reputational issues. Experience working across multiple jurisdictions and cultures, ideally within global or regional operational environments. Strong understanding of international human rights frameworks and industry standards related to responsible mining and security management.
