Software Developer (Retail Systems & PostgreSQL

The Employee's responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to:

• Software Development – Design, develop, modify, code, test, and maintain enterprise software applications, back-end transactional workflows, and systems powering retail and financial operating environments.
• Retail Systems Support & Point-of-Sale (POS) – Provide core development, architectural maintenance, and advanced technical support for Point-of-Sale (POS) engines, stock control, debtor/credit management systems, merchandising, and branch/central retail servers.
• PostgreSQL & Database Engineering – Query, optimize, and maintain PostgreSQL and SQL databases, developing complex data structures, stored procedures, data extraction routines, and automated failover/replication procedures to ensure high performance and transactional data integrity.
• System Migration & Architecture – Participate in large-scale system transitions, central server deployments, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) design, and cloud-readiness initiatives, ensuring operational stability and zero data loss.
• Troubleshooting, DR & Maintenance – Diagnose, investigate, and resolve mission-critical defects, performance bottlenecks, and system outages across retail branch infrastructure, central servers, and disaster recovery environments within defined SLA standards.
• Testing, QA & Test-Driven Development – Conduct comprehensive unit testing, debugging, system validation, regression testing, and quality assurance to verify all functional modules are reliable, scalable, and fit for purpose.
• System Enhancements & Business Translation – Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders in sessions/workshops to translate business requirements, compliance mandates, and operational changes into practical system enhancements.
• Documentation & Version Control – Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, data models, integration specifications, and structured version control workflows for internal codebase artifacts.
• Client & Stakeholder Collaboration – Act as a trusted technical liaison across cross-functional teams, DevOps, and commercial stakeholders, providing clear technical insights, project status reporting, and mentorship.
• Security, Compliance & Governance – Implement software adhering to strict security protocols, enterprise data governance and corporate policies.
• Project Delivery & Continuous Improvement – Deliver assigned milestone objectives, migrations, and enhancements within agreed timeframes and budgets, proactively recommending infrastructure and workflow automations to improve reliability and operational efficiency.
• Other Duties – Perform such other reasonable technical, IT engineering, or architectural tasks as may be assigned from time to time, consistent with the Employee's position, capabilities, and operational demands.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience Matrix

● Industry Experience: Extensive background in retail systems, store-to-head-office architectures, POS integration, and transactional financial systems.

● Database & Querying: Strong proficiency in PostgreSQL and SQL (query optimization, schema design, ETL, data validation).

● Architecture & Standards: Practical experience with system migrations, SOA, XML/API data exchange, and SDLC best practices.

● Methodologies: Strong background in full SDLC delivery, Agile processes, root-cause troubleshooting, and client-facing workshop facilitation.
