Position Title: Solar Engineer
Location: Pretoria

Qualification: BTech or BSc in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or related field
Trade Certification: Red Seal Electrician Certification (Advantageous)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Solar Engineer to join our growing renewable energy team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, planning, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of solar energy systems, a Red Seal qualification, and a passion for sustainable energy solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop solar PV systems in accordance with industry standards and client requirements.
Perform site assessments, energy audits, and feasibility studies.
Prepare system layouts, single-line diagrams, and technical specifications.
Conduct load calculations, system sizing, and equipment selection.
Oversee installation teams to ensure quality workmanship and compliance with safety regulations.
Commission, test, and troubleshoot solar PV systems.
Ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes, regulations, and industry standards.
Prepare technical reports, project documentation, and as-built drawings.
Liaise with clients, suppliers, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
Monitor system performance and recommend optimization measures.
Provide technical support during project execution and after-sales service.

Minimum Requirements

BTech or BSc Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related discipline.
Red Seal Electrician Certification (mandatory).
2–5 years' experience in solar PV design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
Knowledge of solar design software such as PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD, or similar.
Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems and renewable energy technologies.
Familiarity with relevant standards and regulations (SANS, NRS, IEC, etc.).
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills

Experience with commercial and industrial solar projects.
Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) experience.
Knowledge of grid-tied, hybrid, and off-grid systems.
Project management experience would be advantageous.
Registration with ECSA as a Candidate or Professional Engineer/Technologist is an added advantage.
